Got a coil/ flywheel question... first , there seems to be no spark, so I’m wondering if these parts even go together

If its a single keyway, wrong coil, for use with limited coils. But you still should get spark I think, it will just make it a *b-word to start, probably pull a few joints. If its dual keyway it will work, but you've got to put it in x or b slot. That looks like a dogleg coil, unlimited coil.

definitely single key, does the “P” & “B” look like a clue? B for Bosch maybe?

B is where the unlimited slot would be if it was dual keyed. Seen that alot, limited flywheels and unlimited coils. It probably was because the CDIC coils were prone to failure and they just slapped on a unlimited coil because they didnt know better.

Great thread fellas,

Love my 064! I felled some big stuff, milled with it and she leaned out on me. Considered my options and decided to rebuild (my first and a great and satisfying project). Able to clean up cylinder with acid, went with OEM everything for parts, deciding to replace/rebuild basically every component while I was at it. She now wears a 28" bar, and handles it very well, but it's a scary beast with a 20"!

Mines a '93 model - sent serial to Stihl Canada and that's what they told me anyways.

I'll never part with it!

Also agree that the "digital" sticker is pretty cool.

Next project is my TS400 cut off saw and and the FS250 clearing saw (both run and work well but could use some new parts).

Cheers!20180315_143003.jpg

If your coil and fly wheel are good you should still have spark even if is not timed right.
Saw won't run but spark will be proven.
You can put any coil against any fly wheel (064/066/660)to test if a coil is good.
Yep slapped an 026 coil in there yesterday and had spark. Old coil is toast.

Flywheel question. I am building an 066, it is a total restoration (powdered the case, new tank etc.). It is a short case but is has a big end crank bearing. I was looking on the 064/066 thread that @Definitive Dave made about coils, flywheels and such.

It had listed that the 1122 400 1214 was for a big end bearing. I bought a 1122 400 1209/1214 and it's too small. Is there a flywheel that has only one set of numbers on it, (1122 400 1214)?

Or do I need to just go with a 660 poly flywheel?

Do you have the cases together with the crank in? I thought those cranks used a larger pto bearing?

The bearings are the same size and configuration throughout the series (064, 066, MS-650, MS-660). The part number for the PTO side bearing has changed because
they changed the design of the cage a couple times. Somehow, word got out on AS that the poly flywheel saws use larger bearings and that's not the case. It's the flywheel
side oil seal that's larger.

Stihl revised the metal flywheel 066 crank so that it went from 12 needle rollers in the big end rod bearing to 13, so I think that's what Dave's information refers to.

If you have the crank with the larger stub shaft on the flywheel side then you need the poly flywheel.

Ok gotcha I just wasn't sure on that. I figured that I may have to go with a poly flywheel. I think the reason that it doesn't have the right crank in it because I was told that this was a former JMSSAW.

I got a non-decomp jug for free, it had some transfer on it and I was able to clean it up. Checked the squish to see if I could do a base gasket delete. Well it came in at .010" so I had to add a base gasket and if I remember correctly it took it up to .018?
