I have a 550 xp mark ii and i see that the oil pump adjusted at max is not oiling the 18 inch bar well.I have done about 15 tanks on it and the bar is like crap, has no paint left on.After little cutting the bar gets very very hot.I am thinking of removing the pin and take one more turn of the pump.

Take a look at your bar, some, the oil hole is small and get even smaller after painted. Small ball burr takes care of that, if it's the case.

Exactly. A pic of your chain may be help us diagnose the problem as well.

Got a brand new 550mk2 today, "18 x-force bar, 4 chain loops (SP33G).

What kind of simple mods does she like ? I suppose a mild muffler mod will help, but I read on the first pages of this topic she like a few degrees timing advance.

Can't wait to cut a few things tomorrow

Maybe some before mod and after mod timed cuts???
See what gives you the most gains.
Same chain, same stick of wood.

I wouldn’t advance it. But hey that’s just my hack opinion. The 5 series are pretty far advanced from the factory. I did advance my ported 572 a touch (maybe 1/4) key. It’s such a small amount you can go before it pops that it’s really not worth the small gain for the trouble of pulling the flywheel. I didn’t advance my second 572 at all. The 550mk2 responded very well for me doing a muffler mod though. I cut the deflector off, then gutted under it entirely then had a larger deflector brazed/welded on. Spark screen can still be used that way.

Congrats on the new saw.
Not sure on the mk2, but the mk1 get's considerably louder once you get past a certain point, but it is the quickest way to get a nice boost in power on them.

Nice shelf in the car, is there a dividing wall that moves from side to side on the top shelf.

I experimented with a simple hole in the front and a modified Echo 590 inner deflector. It gained a couple seconds in 16" Ash. I haven't used the saw since, so it never got stress tested for how it would hold up to bumping against a log. The hole in the front makes for a straight foreward path out. Another way I might do it would be to cut little gills either in the front, or on the flat surface above the screw.

I am having this exact problem, but need more data on how to increase oil flow.

I just looked at mine and I was thinking that the rubber from the oil line stood a little proud of the bar plate but on mine it sets level. The only thing I can think of is to check that the bar oil hole is lining up and the bar sets flat on the bar plate. The oil hole in my Tsumura bar is tiny but that doesn't seem to cause a problem with it oiling.
