It files just fine, you may have to adjust your angles. It feels weird at first, but the cutters come out fine.

Thats how us PA boys do it. I put the vise grip in the vise a little different though.

Some of the fastest square chain out there goes through a vice grip one cutter at a time. I'll never be that guy but if I'm trying something new it goes in the vice grips.

Lots of guys do it that way. Me I just toss it on the Simington. No problems there with 3/8lp…

Tie strap opposite cutter doesn’t move obviously, but everything for and aft is out of the way. I grind as well but when I did file, this was my preferred method. Ymmv.

I'm headed to Harbor Freight or the depot to get a Vice grip sheet metal clamp for 2-3 times the teeth purchase surface.
