I’m gonna build an adapter to square grind on my USG and would like to get some input on angles from fast to durable. My main goal is a felling chain that is pretty fast without being grabby, hooking in and stalling the clutch when I let off in the cut.

I also have a ton of semi green big eucalyptus to cut this winter.

Thanks!

what kind of angles are you wanting ?
going from simington to silvey you really cant use the dressed wheel numbers
ive checked the top plate on chain ive done and it is around 25/26 degree
as for side plate as long as it is 90 degrees from bar or a slight lean you will be good
too much and you will not have a durable chain

I have a few chains square ground by others but I’ve hardly used them since I can’t reproduce them. The setup I’m gonna make is gone be like www.squarejig.com so angles will be eyeball…so pics best I guess.

I have an ATOP guide but it was kinda clunky and slow to use and I don’t think it does skip. Racing angles kinda grabby and not durable.

I know factory angles are pretty durable but Oregon doesn’t cut for doodly.

Perhaps I should try some chains and then dress my wheel to match what I like.

Trying to get kinda fast n smooth but not delicate.
From what I have seen of it
It’s pretty much just divide the wheel in half and duplicate the angle on both sides
Looks like about 60 degree pitch of the wheel
But it would be a trial and error type of thing

You sound like my workplace's moto:
Faster production, more products, higher quality

They get the first two over the employees back.
The third is just for show as there is no quality with faster higher volume production.

IIRC, get down angle and side angle “forward lean” correct and let top angle be whatever it ends up.
I’ve always said that about the file because you can’t control all three angles when they are fixed on a file. But you can on a grinding wheel
