Just posted this about a 394....those tips swell...and stick
Cool. Good thought. I just put it back together and it is all moving freely. I'll put it back together and see how it goes. I have a feeling the other diaphragm on the one way valve was gasket first onto the carb body.. I am not sure. Anyhows it's all back together as one should be.

I'm not sure if this was the issue or whether the carb just needed a good clean... but it had been thrown back together... and it runs. Well got it started, easily may I add. And it idles and throttles up. Then I realised it was 9pm and a bit late to keep the saw running. Lol. But it's running. Now for the big long teardown, porting, muffler mod and full repaint!!

A good deep clean with degreaser then a wash in the old dishwasher in the garage, followed by a quick reassemble again (all into the night as I am not sleeping very well at the moment)

I dont think it looks too bad, just the ghastly colour difference between the clutch cover and the rest of the saw (picture doesn't show the full extent)

I wonder if I will ever be able to leave a saw in pieces while waiting to rebuild them, I think not... I just think they deserve to be complete whilst waiting for their overdue surgery..
And now I know it is all in GWO I feel a bit better.
Just about to buy some Allis-Chalmers tractor paint as it seems to be as decent a match as I've seen. Plus farm paint is tough as old boots and pretty affordable over here compared to genuine Husqvarna paint. :ARMS1:

Lookin' good! I'm liking the jungle muffler - you don't see them over here on this side of the pond.
Cheers dude, just waiting on my 181se to sell and then I will be buying a new magnesium OEM clutch cover. Just waiting for my new OEM 20" bar and chain to arrive too. I like these Husky's to look factory spec and all :)

I am really torn whether to buy a mag clutch cover or not. My 1990 262xp is in excellent shape, but the plastic clutch cover does have a few scratches on it. A new mag cover would look super, but then it wouldn't be original anymore.

Decisions decisions...

And it's back in bits! Squish set with a new coke can gasket. New caber ring and all bolted back together with a smear of gasket maker. Forgot what these 2 series feel like with a nice tight squish. A proper pop when pulling over the rope. Immense compression. Muffler mod next, crankcase paint has been ordered. Whoop whoop.

Did you measure the squish to see where it was after the coke can gasket installed?
Not yet. I haven't had chance. Can't find any solder. It will be checked before running. I am hoping it will be over .20, if it is I will leave it at that. Been reading through 40 odd pages on AS of Randy's thread on 262xp's and getting some ideas of where to go next with this saw.

As long as you are at a true .017 all the way to the edge of bore I'd say you are good.

And just finished the tank part of the breather exiting in the carb box area of the saw. Got a small echo check vent on the way. Nice bit of clearance between the hose and the av mount area of the casing after scalloping out a bit of the tank area where the hose exits. It should work a treat..

It's as close the the edge of the bore before its in the bore. Coke Can was fresh. And a small bit of p320 wet and dry to soften the edges after the scalpeling. Feels similar in compression to the 254 I did. Gut feeling says it feels like it will be OK.

Looking forward to seeing that vent installed. Will you drill a hole through the crankcase in the carb mount area and install the vent beside the carb somewhere?

Yes. There is already a tapped hole where the heated handle switch would screw down into. I am going to open that out and put a grommet in there for the hose to go through. My pet hate with husks is there useless ability to get a non leaking vent design... I will though!!

Well once you have re-engineered the fuel tank vent successfully, maybe you can get to work on a proper oil tank vent for the husky as well.
Yep, this one leaves a puddle everywhere it goes...

First start since base delete. Revs up nicely. Good tick over. Muffler mod next time.

Little video below...

Think this breather will need a bit more work. It's all clear when the saw is just sitting there but in use and being worked hard I can see the mounts flexing too much.. need to scallop some more out of the tank.
