Had to change my order at the dealer need one white solenoid for this saw it has the 4701 A coil and for his other 661 a black solenoid as it has an older coil.

This is his other 661 I'm going to look at next it's a lot older had a hard life has a chit tonne of hrs on it. It bearly runs a ms170 would have more power something major wrong with the mtronic am hoping its just the solenoid or it might just be time to just throw it in the scrap.

Gave it a run did a handful of cut's with it. Meh it's blubbering and gutless have to wait for the new white solenoid to show up and go from there.
Nothing 20sec with a little orange screwdriver couldn't fix lol

If M Tronic is run low on fuel, and they keep trying to start it, it will go rich to prevent burn up from a air leak. It often takes about 6 tanks (a real PITA) to correct.

During that time, you will often have to start it with the trigger depressed (and there is no fast idle setting).

I would give that saw a full tune up (plug, air filter, fuel filter and tank vent), then check the compression, and go from there.

Something as simple as the tank vent could be responsible!

Got around to fitting the new white solenoid and gave it a run in some Stringy seemed to be getting better the more I run it. Has some balls back! lol
So the solenoid seems to have fixed it.
Yeah chain is over aggressive didn't bother changing it. But wasn't to bad in the Stringy Bark long as ya didn't push it. RS .404 7pin. Oh yeah and it's running on the good stuff 25:1 mineral oil..

Still waiting on the solenoid to show up for the 2nd 661 it barely runs that's if ya can even get it going lol has a bloody lot of hrs on it.
Being an older coil saw and according to stihl parts diagram at the dealer it takes the green update solenoid. You can only get two solenoids green and white here don't know if that's the same overseas?
Will pull it down give it a clean and see what it needs when I get time hopefully can make a decent runner out of it again.

Solenoid showed up. And finally got around to working on his 2nd ms661.
It's a very high hr saw this one I'll see if the dealer can plug it in see the actual hrs on it.
It still has good compression just the usual mtronic no worky properly.
He got this saw years ago I don't remember exactly when but it's got the 1st coil (that smears piston up and down the bore if worked hard running on 50:1) and has the silly 1st intake with the rubber washers in it. I can't see if they are still there yet but they aren't blocking the intake from what I can see.
Am going to pull the cylinder see how it looks in there not needed just curiosity. This saw has only ever been run on mineral oil mixed at 25:1.... so much for carboned up exhaust ports if ya run more oil than 50:1 let alone mineral oil lol.

Anyway a few pics. Same scenario as his other saw it's lived on LOTS of fines.. We'll see how much damage has been done when I pull the cylinder :monoloco: lol
This one is his favourite out of the two said it's always run the best.

As predicted nothing to see here mineral oil for the win! Lol
Got to remember this isn't a 5 gallon saw it's a thousand plus hrs worked hard not babied saw.

Worn out rings, worn thin piston skirts, worn through cylinder plaiting, clapped worn out bearings, gummed up rings, bad blow by...
All that has nothing to do with sawdust fines IMHO it's from lack of oil or the quality of oil used just isn't there for use in a chainsaw as I said all IMHO.
It's basic stuff an oils job/jobs in a 2T is provide good ring seal and burn reasonably clean, and stop metal to metal contact this should never happen.
The only time metal to metal contact happens by design is during break in the rings contact the cylinder wall, after that never is the goal of an oil for all moving parts bearings included.

It still had the washers in the intake they never moved so put them back in.
1st time it's ever had the spark screen cleaned wasn't blocked just had a white chalky coating on it.
Need to get a chain adjuster and elasostart for it.
Will give it a run when I get time we have been flooded out here never seen so much rain.

Didn't change the plug... Why? it wasn't fouled so just cleaned it.

Quite the impressive clapped worn out beast now... Who knew a solenoid was as good as a port job lol
Will have to look at the other one again it don't run as good as this one why??.

100% stock but what it does have going for it is the 1st gen coil is a way better tune than the later fat tune coils, I see why now (thinking about it) the 50:1 oil is bad crowd smeared piston up and down the bore with the 4700c coils.
The 4700c coils are the hotrod coil/tune.

Anyway
25:1 minerals and vitamins oil :campeon:
.404 RS
7pin
Round filed
Hard nose Stihl bar (I painted it trying out a new paint I've not used before)....
Meh I personally don't like the radius of the newer (safety) hard nose Stihl bars it's just all wrong they get hot fast (the nose) and don't bore very well either.

Oh and I gave it a compression test aswell yeah she passed :roto2lol:
