Got one my dads 661's to try get back up and running for him this one has half the hrs than his other one has on it.
It does still run just not very good down on power and he said hard to start.
Anyway it's a mess! I don't think saw maintenance is high on his list of give a damn anymore he's in his early 70's and run saws for a living his hole life.
I'm surprised it ran have a look at the plug! Not sure the last time that was changed if ever lol
Clutch and drum was a mess but after bit of a clean I think it's still good.
I don't remember when he got this saw his had it a few years it does have the update straight intake boot.

Now I've got it all clean with some degreaser and hit with the gerni I can go over it. The piston looks good might pull the jug just for a look see how good the mineral oil we use is going not really needed just curious.
Will get a new solenoid for the carb I'd say the one in it would be trashed, will open the muff outlet a bit as well.
Anyway will see how it goes nothing major wrong with it by the looks so far here's a few pics.

He hates the captive bar nuts on the 661 as do I they are too shallow if you run one up into high hrs over time they start rounding the shoulders of the nuts yeah PITA.
I believe they have fixed this problem with the captive bar nuts on the ms881.

Some degreaser and high pressure good as new lol
Don't panic I did stuff a rag in the ex and intake before hitting with the gerni it's a lot faster and better at cleaning a saw this way than with cotton buds I find lol.

Nice cleanup job. With all the fines that likely made their way past the air filter, a new piston & rings might be a good idea. Also, the clutch drum & needle bearing look like they've never been cleaned & lubricated, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're worn out, too.

These saws are not the easiest things in the world to work on -- far from it. Replacing the outer handle speaks for that, a horrendous design. I recently had two non-running 661 M-tronics brought in and I got one working by canabalizing the other. Owner wanted to save by not buying any parts if possible. That I succeeded in doing. He now has one that runs very well. I certainly wish Rogue60 luck on this one.

Nothing unusual with bore or piston all looks good I can't see any damage from fines? Is a bit dirty around the rings I put that down to tune it's not been running at full power for a long time when the solenoid starts playing up they run like a gutless pig.
