When you open it up, does the piston have moderate chamfers on the bottom of both skirts? I got a recent oem top end k/s and stihl marked, that has alot of chamfer on the skirts and a ugly intake port. Also chrome in the transfers. I don't remeber the original piston having those large chamfers.

Stihl was not thinking about compensating carb when they designed the 034, the pro model isn’t as easy to work on! And if you are have carb issues...taking the upper handle off gets old....I am having carb issues with my 036 pro....sorry for the highjack....it’s been a pain!

I just put a piece of tape or zip tie on the handle if I’m playing with a carb.
Most of the time it stays on there for months then it becomes an indicator of there’s something about that saw I didn’t like.

Yup.

The compensator horn prevents the carb from being removed without disassembly of the rear handle. It’s a PITA.

026 are the same deal, but it’s the linkage that causes the issue.

The timing is advanced and the saw will be ported today.

This piston won’t be coming off.

The oddest duck I have is a NOS 034S P&C made by Mahle. It has the outside structure of an 034S jug with the ports of an 036 Jug.

The “ugly” intake port you are referring to, is it an upside down tear drop? If it is, that’s the standard 036 intake port.

Some pics of yours would be welcome.

The chamfers on the bottom of the skirts is very obvious even with the piston installed. You can easily see it from the boot opening with the jug on. Not happy with the way it ran, a dud. I put a tecomec kit on it and runs right with the early 036, the tecomec has an oddly shaped combustion chamber.

No it's the normal tear drop, but smaller than my 92 036, and a shody grind job to remove a small portion of the lip that stihl had puddling issues with.
Come to think of it, I did have one 036 jug with a smaller than usual inner and outer port. It was a Mahle.

Never saw a KS 036 jug, only 034S. KS jugs are notorious for plating overlapping and going into the ports.

This ks/Stihl jug was recent new stock, even the outside of it is crusty/ corroded looking. Was is a sealed stihl bag in the box. Your correct about the over plating in the ports. Absolutely the worst ks I've seen.
