A good friend of mine is going to Germany Sunday for 2 weeks. I told him he has to figure out how to get on in his carry on when he comes home
Here some helpful ideas on getting one back home.
A. Tell him to ship it in a Husky box;)
B. Slap some MS170 sticker on it.
C. Stick it in a cooler of ice say it an organ for a transplant.

My experience with bringing in Stihl saws from overseas is no fuel or oil period in the saw or it has to go freight been there done that :(.I hate customs

Internal combustion engines are on the IATA dangerous goods list. Just how airlines apply the regulations varies markedly. Some are fine if they can't smell fuel, others are completely against it no exceptions. Regarding exceptions, there is an IATA "special provision" that validates the saws as safe to carry if they are purged and the shipper signs a declaration confirming this, often referred to as a purge certificate.

The relevant special provision is A70 and its application is also subject to the whims of each airline. The provision was to allow for the airlines to carry new saws that have been bench tested before being sold, as part of the general assembly process of the manufacturer or retailer. The fact the fuel systems at one stage have had fuel in them made the saws a 'dangerous good' and the special provision was there so that the seller of new saws could still move their products on airlines.

Not every airline will actually carry saws, even if new and accompanied by a valid purge cert. Their reasoning is that at some stage, even a new saw has had fuel in it and as such they don't want the risk.

It really comes down to the airline and everyone should check first because it's a bloody nightmare if they refuse. I had two used saws refused when I was flying to Canada, then when I got home and sent them they were sent back, then I found another airline that would accept a purge cert.
Contrast this with coming back from Oz with a saw and that airline didn't care at all.

Got a new challenger [emoji16] (with heated handles, slightly heavyer). I will test it against the ported one as soon as possible [emoji6] first stock and then with muffler mod + timing advance for clear results.

In less then two minutes :)

When I was at the Stealership picking up that 362CM-VW I was the butt of more than one joke. I was reminded that I scoffed at the idea of heated handles when I bought my snow blower there and lately I have been in once a week picking up chainsaws with heated handles...

In germany it is very common for full time professionals to use heated handles, not only for comfort, it is also a kind of precaution against the raynaud's disease (white fingers) due the constant virbations when working for years with a saw, especially in cold regions, I don't know if it's true at all but that's what the german OSH recommendations say.

Back when I used Homelite saws w/o AV, my hands would vibrate for a while even after I was done sawing, especially in the cold. That is part of the reason why after I got my 044, I never used the Homelites again.

Since I always were work gloves when using the saw, the rubber AV works just fine for me.

I like heated handles because I'm a pussy with soft salesman hands that have been frost bitten a few too many times as a kid.
