Husqvarna 262xp raffle build thread

Good evening fellas. I spoke with @drf256 this morning about collaborating on a pair of 262xp builds to donate for a raffle in honor of @Stevetheboatguy. Al has one he is going to build & donate, am I am going to do a 257/262xp conversion based on a saw Steve brought to me. This past winter Steve came up to my house to buy a snowmobile, and he brought with him a decent 257 along with a collection of 262 parts. Included with those parts was this Mahle decomp 262 jug with some busted fins.

Al has offered to weld some fins back on the jug before I go ahead and machine & port the jug. So, this guy is gonna take a trip to the doctor. While I wait for that, I will start figuring out what if anything I might need that didn’t come with the saw.

Update on this.... JJ is sending me a different jug without missing fins. This cylinder will be going with the saw to Steve Linn's father.

Here's what I got for this build - excellent condition used Mahle cylinder (purchased from a member), new OEM gasket set fresh from 1990, new Fafsa bearing made in Germany, new NSK bearing made in Poland, and I'll order Greg a couple of new OEM seals today.

This stuff made it here quick! I’m gonna get the jug in my ultrasonic cleaner and start tearing the saw down for a rebuild.

I managed to get the 257 tore down this weekend and get most of the parts through the ultrasonic cleaner.

Got the new bearings dropped into the cases. I ended up swapping one of the bearings JJ sent for a Nachi.

Then using the new gasket and my @Mattyo crank tools, I put the bottom end back together.

Do you have an air dam that goes around the intake block?

What do you have for an ultrasonic cleaner? It looks like it did a good job. Time saver as well.

Nice build, should be a good saw for whomever takes it home.
