2100 guru’s what is stock compression usually? And dose base gasket delete a good mod for these? My stock squish is .052, that seems like a lot!?! I really like the saw! Do most of you disable the governer? What bucking spikes do you like, I think mine is wrong, it has 3 points, I haven’t seen any others( am sure there are) but I usually like 4 point spikes.

I can't say I'm a guru but I can tell you my 2100 is a bear to pull over .The drum bushing was shot so I made one out of brass and installed a Stihl 460 D-handle which took some of the bite out of it .
I can't say for sure if this thing has been worked over or not but at a few GTG's it cuts faster than most 2100's .It's got a v-stack and a K and N filter which I think is a PNW thing because it came from some island off Washington state .It's a powerful old rascal but it's chore to get it started if you flood it which is easy to do which is why I don't use it too often .I've never tached it nor taken a static compression check .
So all that said I see no reason to modify this one if it hasn't already been done because it's good enough just as it is .

It would be interesting to know the squish on that saw! Mine is .052 and has 165psi, it has plenty of compression..you can hold it by the starter handle with a 36” bar and it doesn’t budge..passes the gravity test! lol I am a big fan of tighter squish, they just seem to tune and run better. Mine hasn’t had a flooding problems, has yours had the governor disabled?

It is easy to delete the governor. I made a thread on it not too long ago. Base gasket delete works well. Haven't measured squish, but I am at 170psi and climbing

Thanks I did see that thread! I am planning on doing it! And think real hard about about doing the base gasket delete, it usually makes a big difference, and with the big squish clearance, it shouldn’t have any issues. Porting may follow, but one step at a time! Lol

Looks like it’s already blocked off, but they didn’t put the governor back in, is this ok!?!

Hard to tell whats going on there. What does it look like is in there to you? Jb? Seems like general practice is drop a Welch plug in and cinch the governor back in place to block it off. I have a different carb thats not stock without the governor port.

I figured out the starting on that thing .Just choke it one pull and don't prime it if it sits a long time . I thought I stiffled the rattle bar gov .However a couple of folks say I didn't get it .I may fiddle more with it or I may not .Depends on what kind of a mood I'm in .
I've got some big oak rounds I have to whittle down to size .Not now, fall .The damned mosquitoes are starting to buzz around .

It looks like a tiny freeze plug. it tuned like it had a governor though, it four strokes hard, And if I turn of the eight screw and eighth of a turn in but it won’t even rev up it’s too lean
