I was pretty surprised when I took the filter off as well. The oiled prefilter took care of it though. Most other conditions, however, the filter has been great.

That wasn't from a flock filter like the one pictured top of page? Must have been a mesh filter?

Yes it was

It was some pretty severe old-growth Douglas fir bark dust conditions, and the chain was sharp, just for anyone who might ask.

Other than that, I really like the saw.

Are you running a pre filter on the 462 as well? Thought I read that you posted that in the saw video thread.

Saw companies need to offer a foam filter option for the guys out west it sounds like.

Yes I am running the arctic filter with an oiled prefilter.. but the hd2 filter, filters that bark just fine

I know on the 372/385/390 we’ve seen the same thing not as serious but a decent amount.

I didnt like that radial filter seal on the 661. Leaked fines. Seems like they fixed that on the 462. One I tested worked good but I only had a week to run it.

I think no matter what filter it is you’ll see something the main issue is the tolerance in the moving components has gone from a hair to nothing.

It’s mainly on the old growth or the older second growth with the old growth bark it has a certain look and feel.
This is second growth not huge but decent sized.

Foam filters definitely do a fantastic job.

God those things are horrible for filtering and the dawgs are only good for tree ornaments.
