I am still a .44 fan. Always will be.
The 454 I shot was not conducive to shooter comfort, or even the want to practice.. Lol...
But was a single action. No break.
I'd think the 480 would be more comfortable for extended sessions than the 454.
I don't feel under gunned with a .44M. I have several and feel confident they're capable of stopping anything in the lower 48 that's trying to eat me.
I have a 4 3/4" Freedom Arms SA in .454 that's the most ill mannered handgun I've ever fired. It's kind of like shooting a hand grenade.
I've also got a 5 1/2 Ruger SRH in .454 that's a lot more comfortable to shoot.
My 6 1/2" Ruger SBH in .480 is the most comfortable of the three. With a 4 5/8" barrel, that might not be the case.
Below, at the top is the .480 SBH. Middle is the SRH in .454 and at the bottom is the FA in .454.
Any of the three is a handful but the FA is down right wicked.

Hell...
I even like a good old .357 mag..

There's not any game here I wouldn't hunt with it. From hogs to rabbits. Very versatile..

As long as it's a single action wheel gun, I'm down with it.

Now, I stumbled across a rifle the other day that intrigued me..
It was a heavy, fluted barreled, savage.
Chambered in 6.5 creedmore..
Now I know this round has become trendy for some reason, but I'm not seeing why..
I'm sure it shoots great, but greater than what's already out there??

I want a bergara some kinda bad in 6.5. From everything I've seen it's real flat and pretty much whoops up on .308.

I may be wrong, but isn't the creedmore just a .308 necked down to .264 or 6.5mm?

In which case, what is the magic? The 7mm 08 should be right there with the 6.5, and the .243 should shoot flatter.. Soooo.... What am I missing?

Shoulder angle is different. 6.5 won't fit in 308 case trimmer I have. The 08 case isn't near as efficient as some of the others. 6mm reedmoor, dasher, or BR equals 243 speed with same bullet with about 6-7 grains less powder. That adds about 5-700 rounds of barrel life.

Bergara is on Rem 700 pattern so all the aftermarket goodies fit. I'd like to have the HMR since it takes pmags

Oh don't get me wrong if I had either I wouldn't jump ship for a 6.5 but I don't. So if I bought a new rifle 6.5 would be what I'd get. Now what say yall about .224 valkyrie?

I've been meaning to go look at them. My savage shoots so good I hate to start over on a new rifle with load development.

Can't blame you... I was blown away with my 220 slug gun from savage and a few of my buddies love their rifles.

I don't mind multiple rifles just multiple of same caliber might be a pain to load for them

My grandpa and I used to love working up loads for our guns. Every evening during the week try different things and load up for the range on the weekend. When he passed I kinda lost the enjoyment of reloading and gave it all away. Now that I'm older I could kick myself in the sack.

If that is the goal, then mathematically, wouldn't the 270 or 7mm WSM be more desired for long range shooting? Shorter, fatter case = more efficient powder usage. Heavier pill.

And is there some magic in that 2900-3000 FPS range as far as accuracy.??

I think there is, but can't prove why...

Even the 50BMG runs in that range...

The 7wsm and 28 Nosler now are both making reliable hits to 1500 yards or so with 175 grain and heavier. It takes about 64 grains for a 208 ELD Match in the 300WSM to get about 2780 and was grouping 6-8" @800 yards or so.

For most cartridges. The 6x47, 6 dasher alk push a 105-110 at 2975-3k
