Id take 41 over 44 mag anyday
I've got both and like both.
The .41 mag in a light gun, like a S&W M57 Mountain gun, is a joy to carry and shoot. It can handle bullets up to 230gr well and is a good round for anything up to the mid sized Toyotas.
The .44 mag can handle heavier bullets (300gr+) but at the cost of increased recoil, which in a light gun can span the gamut from uncomfortable to down right painful. The .44 can handle anything the .41 can plus it's the equal of most full sized V8's.
When you move up in size from the V8 to diesels, which are tougher to stop, the .454, .480 Ruger and .475 linebaugh really shine.
Of course proper bullet construction and placement are paramount to one shot kills.

I will have to make a trek West, or have a mini-GTG here and have you come East, as I'd gladly try the .480 Ruger (.475 Linbaugh Light) again, but would love to try the .454 and the .475... I really like the power you get out of the .480, for the relatiely slow burn rate and more push than snap style of recoil.

I'm in complete agreement concerning the .480 Ruger. A 412gr Keith bullet at 1,200fps will kill anything with blood in it and will do it without punishing the shooter.
Below, on the left, is a .453 cal 300gr KT bullet.
On the right is the 412gr KT sized .476.
You don't realize how much difference there is until you see the bullets side by side. The .480 punches a big hole.

I have a Taurus raging bull in 454 casull.
Stainless 9in ported barrel.
Its not as bad as one would think on recoil.
I have shot 2 deer at 100yrds with a good rest.

A buddy of mine has one of those, although I don't remember his barrel being that long. The recoil wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, even with full house 300gr loads. When I shot it, I didn't have any of the 320gr loads I was using on Hogs at the time but I can't imagine the recoil being a lot worse.
I enjoyed shooting it.

Saw this in the news this morning. It may be a bit unsettling. It takes "shooting" to another level -- though it is not about hunting game or ballistics.

(1) Is anyone on here reloading shotgun slugs? I live in IL and we have to deer hunt with a shot gun. I have the savage 220 slug gun and it shoots like a rifle with factory ammo and was wondering how scary it would be with some fine tuned hand loads. I have a MEC 600 shot press now. (2) What would it take to convert to reload slugs if possible? Thanks guys.

My understanding is that most slugs can be reloaded by simply substituting the slug for the wad and shot. Of course, it would be wise to use slug data whenever possible. Lee and Lyman make slug molds which use a standard wad, they look pretty neat. There is a wealth of knowledge on this topic at the Cast Boolits forum.

I am still a .44 fan. Always will be.
The 454 I shot was not conducive to shooter comfort, or even the want to practice.. Lol...
But was a single action. No break.
I'd think the 480 would be more comfortable for extended sessions than the 454.
