I needed a Splitting Maul in a pinch about 5 years ago (my 8lb Japan Maul got stolen).
I *b-wordED & GRIPPED about paying $30 for a brand new Mexican Collins!
Made me sick to pay that!

Well... 5 years later, it's beat all to hell, but it's still a great Maul!
I have split an ungodly amount of wood with it & still do with ZERO complaints.
It's hammered a many splitting wedges in its life also.
It has paid for itself a hundred times over.
Holds a great edge!
No one more surprised than me @ how good it has been!

Not to me their not i have a pile of Kelly's the kelly axe/true temper factory was 40 miles from me
I'll show this to my cousins that worked there in the 60s/70s/80s they'll get a kick out of it.

Interesting experience this weekend. Was in the mountains with my splitters going after Cedar. The little Aussie cyclone 6lb that works so well in Euc did not work well in big soft cedar rounds. With the wide angle and narrow bit, the cedar would just absorb the maul. Regular US and Euro mauls worked, as well as axes…first time I’ve split anything that could be split with axes. 😆

Heavy Hitter 8lbs , gonna scrap that crap lacquer off , give it a proper burn , and some Watco , View attachment 410047
can you pic/measure the profile angle? Bit/cutting edge.

I got a couple rounds of euc that weren't too bad and split them with my 5lb council axe on my lunch break. Lot less work than a maul. Getting better at finding and exploiting the weaknesses in the wood.

its funny how different profile axes and choppers work. my 5lb wedge pounder works really well on lots of different wood and some it is laughable
