Probably because it is printed with PLA and not ABS or Nylon. Good customer service though. Put that file up on thingiverse.

It's not PLA, ABS or Nylon or they all would be broken the first time you try to use them. Why would we do the design and r&d and then just give it away. Come on man, not like its a spool holder or something.

Well I’m mystified at what exotic plastic you are using. Do tell.!

If you want to make money on printing these for members that’s cool. Not all of us have a 3D printer and you’re charging for your service. On the other hand, some of us have a means to print cool stuff we find useful and putting it up on Thingiverse contributes to members of the community who are into chainsaws AND 3D printing AND have a Fasttach brand tach. Probably not a lot of us that you’d lose out on sales from if you were to freeware the design. It’s even questionable if someone has a 3D printer AND a fasttach tach if they would buy a 3D printed holder (kinda defeats the purpose of owning a printer). And if your material is superior to ABs, PLA and Nylon, you can claim that yours is still better than any Home-made version even if you did share it.

As for being against giving away your R&D, it isn’t like you’ve designed the lunar module landing gear for NASA, it’s a holder for a tachometer. Not much more to it than a spool holder, and I’ve seen more complex things on Thingiverse. Lots of members give back to the community with parts and time, saws and port work offered up for fundraisers, Christmas giving thread, etc etc... giving back, err, away, to the community isn’t ALWAYS hard to believe.

But to each their own.
