Among other things, yes I would agree. And that's what caused the funky idle.
Not the ring, but the squish clearance or lack thereof.
I found the same thing in several Stihl three and four series I tried to run down right tight 7-8 thou. Idle sucked and vacuum falls off quick. The wash pattern was no where near "right." It ran with issues beyond just idle. Detonation was present and it took material off the band and left it on the plug.If you spin it over 3 or 4 times it gives a better reading. I use .030" most of the time. .014" is about .009" with plastigauge. I run a 372 like that for a tank or 3 bucking some maple. It lived. No touching but the burn pattern didn't look right so I checked.
Yup straight forward a measurement as will ever find.I just did a Google search on plastigauge. I'd heard of it but never seen exactly what it is. Looks pretty straight forward
Spray canola works most times but the plasti does stay up top sometimes. I just pull the jug every-time and make sure it is right. Have been know to do a hot check with approx 0.012 solder twisted to both sides directly over the wrist pin. It's accurate but you have to pull the jug every time. They stick to the squish band a lot of the time. I've been meaning to try spray cooking oil to keep it from sticking
I thought the same thing at first glance. I do not think Brad would let this thing leave his shop in this condition with that many problems. One thing can be said about his port design/shape/width, he is looking for maximum top end flow. I'm sure his race saws are in the hunt for the win. I'd like to see him do an alky or funny fuel build on here. seems best suited to his style of port work.this saw kind of reminds me of brads work. wide ass ports.
Send me that jug. I'd like to take a crack at fixing it to build a racer. Never built a hot rod 372, yet.
