What's your favorite 70cc saw?

Problems I had were with stock saws mainly, I only ran one ported 661 at high elevation, for two tanks, it seemed to have better manners then the stock saws did, it didn't load up, bog, not idle, like the others did.

I have nothing else to compare it to, but this 7910 Tree Monkey ported motorsaege is a performer. The only downside thus far is the clutch cover clogging when noodling. I had looked at obtaining an ms500i last fall but no availability, high price, thirsty, and it seems everyone likes ‘em ported anyway, so I figure I have less invested in this ported than a stock 500i. You aren’t missing out on anything. That ported 7910 is just as fast as a ported 500i. At least mine are.

I keep my 32 inch on a 272 I own. My next larger saw is a 288. I’ve run it on both.

I can honestly handle the saw better is why I keep it on the 272.

288 with a 32” bar gets heavy.

if you’re cutting lots of trees down the 288 gets heavy

swapped a 24 404 on the 288

read on the internet a 70 cc saw can’t pull that. Let alone stock.

Bit of everything. More hardwoods. Gum maple.
Occasional oak occasionally pine fir. Cherry. Lol.

My favorite 70 odd cc saws are the ones that get used . I'm down to 2 now a 572 xp and a 576 xp . All the others ,044, 365 special etc sat there and became a home for the spiders so I sold them. That's the test of a saw I think , if it gets picked up and used when others don't thats what I'm keen on.

It's more a question of my favorite local service shop, admittedly old school, but they know everything there is to know about the Stihl 1128 series. Will loan tools and offer repair advice. So when an ms461 showed up, I snagged it and sold an ms460 and ms440. Dependable, easy to start, good torque and power. Tune by ear in the cut with seasonal temperature changes. Air filtration adequate.

OTOH, if the local Husqvarna dealer had the better service shop, I'd be running a 572xp.

Yip that is a big part of it . My stihl and husky dealers are both within 5 minutes of me and both aren't to bad so not an issue for me on that side of it.

461 are well known for the plug issues. There like the ford 5.4 of the saw world. Lol

Ah ok gotcha. Yeah I have an auto shop. Have had me plenty of fun with some early 2v's. Spark plugs, manifolds, etc. V10's are extra special lol. Not gonna lie though, for a gas truck I have a sweet spot for a good ford V10. 3v's were fun too with cam phaser issues and spark plugs that would snap off in the head. Oh well, they're all junk after you work on enough of them. Pick whatever makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

Oh, and love my ported 7910 and ported 460. Kinda like the 7910 more but hate the fact Makita is flushing gasoline saws down the toilet. Kind of a buzz kill.

I think the 4.6 liter 2V and 5.4 liter 3V V-8s were the Ford Motors with the most spark plug issues.

My 4.6 liter 3V seems to not have that problem. (It is stroked to 4.9 liter with Eagle crank, rods and pistons and runs a Whipple Twin Screw Inter Cooled SC)

Really like my MOFO 460, it is very strong. For some reason, it got even stronger with a 461 carb, but none of my other saws like the 461 carb ... go figure!

Yeah you seem to hear the most horror stories about the 3v 5.4's in the trucks. Probably because there is a sh!t ton of them out there on the road and being worked and neglected. All the 2v mod motors def had plug issues. The last couple years they were better as ford added some extra threads to the head. I had a 04' f250 5.4 2v for several years as a personal truck. Plowed snow, towed my car trailer, etc. She was bullet proof never a problem. A bit nutless towing heavy loads you had to let it rev. But she loved every minute of it. They're def sensitive to over tightening of spark plugs. There's not many times I use a torque wrench changing spark plugs but on those engines I do! lol

Guess I better throw some more 70cc content in here. Echo 800p? Qualifies no? I'm sure enters nobody's head as a favorite for anything lol. I have a clean one here that scuffed a top end. Got a new one for it. I feel like it should be ported before I even bother putting it together. I read it weighs like a 90 and cuts like a 70 stock. Seems to be built like a tank though!

my favorite 70cc saw is a 7000+ partner because the only one
