What's on your bench?

I ordered a brand new OEM muffler for $13. The plan was to give it a little mod.

Any suggestions for a p/c swap? I was going to pull the cyl and see if there is any “porting” to be done to try to give it a little more grunt.

I'm relatively certain it's a clamshell motor, so I doubt there are better cylinders for it. Exhaust could be widened and a little timing advance probably wouldn't hurt

Just about got this 1 finished, 064 for a friend, built it from just a set of case halves. Just waiting on the muffler spacer from Dave to come tomorrow. Tried to make the welds on the deflector look like a braided rope, kinda my thing.

Built this 1 last night for myself, Doc is doing me a cylinder for it, I am sure it will be a great runner, looking for the reproduction decal for the starter cover yet, 262 xp.

Started this 385xp for myself tonight, fresh powdered cases by @Glock37, all the plastic is brand new OEM, even got a low top cover and filter, figured my 365 and 281,288 are all low top might as well keep the theme going, won't get this 1 done for a few days as I go back to work tomorrow night.

What paint did you use on the muffler? I have tried several different “header” and high temp paints and all have wrinkled up and burned off.

Next question: I am looking at a Husqy 394 on Saturday. He said he was cutting some wood slabs and it now barely runs and spits fuel out the carb. Sounds like it might be in pretty rough shape. Thinking of making an offer on it if it isn’t in too bad of shape. What say the hive?

VHT makes the best paint in a can that I have found, remember to heat the part in a toaster over, or even a hair dryer first, thin coat x2, heavy will crack. Then I bake in the oven at 220 for 20 min.

I snagged a Husqy 240e for $5. Needed fuel lines and primer bulb. The clutch cover and muffler are missing but it fired right up with new fuel lines and filter. (No i didn’t run it long)

So reading reviews online it looks like an underpowered BigBox Store turd. Any suggestions on how to “hot rod” this little junk a little bit? Its a 38 cc saw. What kind of fun can we have with it?

Do you have one of those spooned carb tools?
And I nodded two of those muffs before. The first one makes your eyes wanna bleed looking at it and the second looks sneaky.

Spooned carbed tools? Not sure what you are referring to. Once the muffler gets here I will do some madding to it. Looking at the cylinder I think a little massaging may be in order. I doubt it will help much but any practice will help.

Oh, nope, don’t have one. I do have butt connectors and a little epoxy..... I worked on a little 33cc Poulan and found that the butt connectors, a dab of epoxy to reinforce the grip on the adjuster and a pinch with needle nose pliers makes them usable with a small flat tip screwdriver. The BLUE fit fine but the RED ones seem to stay better if you preheat them with a heat gun and then push/force them on. I just leave them in place.

The first one I messed with and this is before I found these sites, I just pulled them out and cut little slots with a dremel. Now I did see a pic of someone sliding some fuel line over the screws and leaving them hang out acting like a thumb screw.

I got one 242xpg who has a usuable crank (ment to be a build later this year), seems I gotta steal that one, and start to hunt down another crank...
