A lot of people know that I collect saws, I get several calls and messages every week about wonderful opportunities to buy things.

The BP-1 is a balanced piston, firing piston on top, balance piston on the bottom acts like a supercharger and also functions as the intake valve, in essence it is piston ported via the balance piston.

There were a lot of innovative features built in to those models, none of which carried over to any other production models...

The sprocket nose bars were a similar design to the consumer bars of today. The sprocket teeth are quite different since the A-8 chain was 1/2" pitch but the drivers were similar in size to 3/8" pitch chain.

The "Slimline" bars also featured a fine mesh brass screen over the oiler hole to keep debris out of the channels.

There were hardnose bars as well with oiler outlets near the tip.

There were even roller nose bar with oiler outlets near the tip.

Doing crank seals, oiler line, oiler gasket, timing advance, carb kit, sealing up reed block cracks, reed block gasket, new two stage boyesen reeds, carb gasket, new choke rod, installing chain brake parts on the clutch cover, welding broken brake flag, modding and painting muffler, new rubber intake box/boot, HD filter, used starter cover, decals, and bar and chain.

An attempt to fix leaky Pioneer oil and gas caps:

On the gas cap, I removed the inner plastic vent valve holder, drilled the center hole, and inserted a Homelite style duck bill vent into it. Then I epoxied the other holes closed, and epoxied the retainer back into the cap. We’ll see how it does.

On the oil cap, I removed the screw holding the cap retainer, stuffed some gauze into the area above the vent hole, and put the cap retainer back on, smooshing the gauze firmly into place.

And the verdict is?

It works! For both caps.

If you have to put a rice rocket filter on it! 👍🏻

That’s actually a rare Pioneer K&N filter from the 1980’s. They made those for loggers on the west coast who were logging the Mt St Helens blast. The ash was destroying saws with the standard filters.

The problem was home like gas caps, and or oil you need to take it slow because there’s always a duck Bill people go all crazy before they realize how it’s actually engineered
