Already installed and running, just knocked some epoxy off the last time I took it to the woods. Looks like it sat on a dirt floor for a long time, lots of missing metal on the bottom of the saw

Concrete seems to be the most destructive in my experience. I was once given a Husky 257 (I think) to repair that had been mashed into the ground and left for dead. In the ground for over a year. As far as corrosion goes, it wasn’t eaten at all. I don’t know how long it takes, but something in concrete is like acid to magnesium and it can worm hole right thru a gas tank.

The Dolmar is alive and well. New case half, crankshaft and ignition set (original). While running it the screw that hold the oil pump drive in place backed out. It allowed the dogs to disengage but touch ever so slightly and the machine suddenly sounded like it was coming apart. I didn’t find the oil pump problem until after I’d removed the cylinder for inspection . It’s good thing I did that because I found a “loose” piston pin retaining ring about to exit and really ruin my day. I got one a bit tighter and buttoned it up. Ran it three times after and it seems fine. Back to shelf with it!

Not on the bench yet,but I've gotta get these guys prepped for when I climb a digger on my brother's place this weekend. Also, thanks to @Stump Shot for alerting me to the existence of those little clips Husky makes for the rear handle.

if you have the leash on that way how do you attach it to your belt and are you sure that you trust that clip to hold if you drop the saw?

"Clip" is the wrong sorta term, they actually look like the pic below, a non-pictured screw holds the wire loop to the plastic once it's on the saw. As for strap setup, I just snapped them on like that mostly to get the straps off my bench top. If I'd be better off looping the leash around the saw and clipping the leash to the belt as opposed to using the clip on the belt I'll do it that way, I'll freely admit I'm not a pro when it comes to this stuff.

I remember when he spoke to me about my 550 build, he spent a good hour going into detail on all the modifications.

i havent ever seen them. it has been a long time since i climbed every day. my climbing belt barely fits around me now.

Did you receive the saw in pieces? What you're showing is where the handle bolts to the tank. No AV spring goes there. There is one farther up between the handle and cylinder. The lower two bolts simply bolt right to the tank.

Should be a bolt with a non-threaded "pin" that goes in the hole in the tank and occasionally a rubber grommet that goes on the pin. They're limiters for the av system as opposed to being an actual part of the av system.

I finally finished my Husky 272xpg (well 1/2 g) project. I found this saw at the dump last year, not running. It has been worked on before as the wiring for the heated handles where all clipped off. The front handle was replaced and didn't have the heating package. While taking it apart to clean it I decided that this would be my first saw I would attempt to split the case and replace the bearings. This gave me the confidence to split my 2100's case and replace it's bearings too! I rewired the saw and have it hooked up so the rear handle heats up on demand now, hence the 272xp1/2g. It has a new muffler, new piston and new carb/air intake assembly. I can't forget about the $$$ fine-thread av mounts. It has lots of compression. I am happy with how this saw turned out...especially that it ran after getting it all back together!

372xpg (not mine). It came to me with a 52mm big bore. I’m gonna put a good used 50mm OEM top end on with a full port job.

I just throw a 1/2” piece of 1/2” fuel line in there in place of the little rubber piece that is usually gone.

It’s 461 day here at my place. I opened a box of 461’s and I believe I can assemble one really nice one to sell and still have a box full of 461 parts. Probably sell them too. I’ve had a new 461 cyl kit for years, gonna use it now.
