I am trying to figure out what to do with this.

She supposedly cuts out mid bucking cut under load.
I guess I will have to mount a B&C on her and take her for a ride. :)
Curious to find out whether she'll start up.

I have never seen a fall as wet as we had this year, and still raining as I speak. Last week we got about 3" with that storm. Guess if it was snow there would be more complaining, as it would be a lot of snow. The rain sucks though, can't do anything w/o making mud!

I really think the Gov should require water pipe lines, any time Oil and Gas ones are installed, to move water from one part of the Country to another.

Seems we are getting into cycles of wet or dry here or there, on a regular basis. However, often when one place is having drought, another is being flooded.

IMO, the pipelines would make a lot of sense for agricultural purposes, sanitation, etc.

Natural progression. Just like forest fires out west; certain trees NEED the heat and up drafts from the fire to spread seeds. Drought years and flood years are part of natures cycles to keep this spinning rock the right colors.

That and good luck getting any sort of pipeline past the tree-huggers and bunny-humpers

She fired up fine, 6-7 pulls, had too high idle which I corrected.
I made three bucking cuts after which she just died and wouldn't start back up.
I poured about a spoon full of fuel out of the carb, but the spark plug looked dry.
After sitting a while she fired up OK, made one bucking cut and then died again.

Tomorrow I will first check the piston through the outlet for my own piece of mind, then try running her again.

I expected a 181 to be much louder.
I guess the single tiny muffler outlet is keeping noise low.

Check the ground screw on the ignition coil, if loose will cause erratic behavior as one possibility.

Thank You for the hint, will check tomorrow before running the 181 again.

It is my neighbors saw, he asked me to look her over due to erratic behaviour.
I generally do not mess with saws other than my own, but my neighbor also happens to be my firewood logs supplier so I agreed as a friendly gesture and hopes for further quality log deliveries.

It is an amazing piece a of machinery.
My Dolmar PS-550 looks big next to the Husqvarna 181SE - I expected the 181 to be much much bigger.
18" 3/8" B&C on both saws.

Those 181, 281 and 288 mufflers seem to have a pretty restrictive baffle in them.

Are these mufflers easy to mod?
Should I ask my neighbor to mod it or rather leave it be?
The 181 is a work saw and my neighbor is not chainsaw crazed.

For a work saw I'd go with a Hutzl and mod it. Save the original can.

The baffle seems to be right in the middle of the muff so you have to get in there and grind away at it a bit.

The Hutzls are just an empty can.
