2012 w/el44. Supposedly had an update in 2014 but I’ve never checked it. It runs nicely so I’m not messing with updates. It doesn’t seem to have any of the hot start or bog issues. I’ve cut cooling holes in the top cover and added an mm.

I’d like to play with some dynamat extreme (or whichever one helps with heat) and try to keep temps down. I was talking with a guy who claims it reduced heat by a quite a bit. I like how on that new 572 they have that white composite as a barrier to reduce heat. I’m wondering how far you could take the concept?

I’ve been installing reflective heat tape in most of my builds. It is simple aluminum tape with pressure adhesive. I THINK it makes a difference, but have no proof of it. In concept, the reflective medium reflects the heat away from components and also provides a smoother surface (less turbulence) for airflow. The airflow is the largest contributor to heat control so anything that helps the airflow is helpful (at least in my mind).

Be careful with the Dynamat. Almost all of those products have a sound deadener (rubber adhesive) that will cause an enormous mess. Works awesome as a sound deadener but not so awesome with close proximity high heat. I tried it on one of my early builds and it ended up a big goopy mess.

Just my $0.02

I was thinking this stuff, reflectix. It’s cheap and shouldn’t melt. 1B2CE98B-C98C-4BFD-AB6E-F557D764C376.png

This is what you want for heat tape. Have to ensure any surface you attach it to is CLEAN! I mean it has to be completely sterilized-operating room clean; I use acetone as final cleaner before applying. Has to be applied and ‘rolled’ or pressure applied to stay on.

I would definitely leave it be if it’s running good. The el44 is supposed to be ok. The el46 is supposed to be the problem one (we are in the minority on this forum so a lot of issues are magnified sometimes imho). Bob was saying they might come out with a heat barrier for the 562 and it could retrofit to older saws. I’ve cut in -20 degrees to 98 degrees with mine and it never refused to start however. I’ll probably just leave it be.

I wouldn’t have any problems running it, was it out of a runner or?

Thanks man.

She’s out of a McCulloch 795, really really filthy west coast saw.
Definitely not a runner

Here’s some more photos

I think the cylinder and piston look pretty good.

These photos were taken after soaking In purple simple green for only a few hours.
Gonna let her soak a whole lot more.

Hey can anyone tell me the differences between the 795, 797 and 125?
