Just got this off the bench, free-ish 028, I threw an $8 China carb at her and she runs great now,but should I bgd and ta? Squish was something like .065 and has 145psi comp. can you add a chain break to these? I came to me with a hard nose 20” bar with new 3/8 chain...it has a 325 spur gear...had to throw an 18” 325 bar off an 024 that I built for my dad,

What happened? Handle break?

Broke the left side of case with the travel limiter. That allowed it to pull the front rubber av out of the case tugging on the handle with dull chain.

Got lucky I could show him on the other one I had just finished.

039 back together..not my favorite saw but they have a stock car sound after muffler modding that's hard not to love..

Put both bearings on crankshaft, if they are warmed enough they will fall on and tighten up in place. Warm clutch side of case drop crank bearing in until it bottoms. Warm flywheel side, it will automatically line up correctly when both case halves come together.

Use the seal holder.
The last one I did was plastic. So I just made some shims to drop the bearing on to locate it.

Some folks prefer the 181 top end to the 288, I think b/c of chamber size...especially the early two thin ring piston version. If they’re usable, no way I’d swap. Nice score there for sure sir!

Look for a brass plug in the side with a screw slot in it. That's it. It can be blocked off if so desired. At the time Still felt it would not last if too much rpm was obtained.

isnt that their philosophy still on the rpms.......

My youngest sons 81 resto project. Still lots of cleaning to do... keeps him outta my hair. Lol

if it was me I'd build a 181 speedster and then made a 288 for milling and save a 52mm back as extra.

DNT forget to add a little dirko or something to the screws that hold the plate on the flywheel side down, they can leak air there and it's a real pain to diagnose
