So he discounts used but running saws to you? Ok. I thought you meant you don't rebuild junkers then sell them locally.

Yes mostly what I buy from his is new Arctic saws but occassionally he has something used that I want as well.

Mostly all they ever get is homeowner crap that I don't want but occasionally something like a cherry 044 Arctic roles in...

Kevin, I have only found that to work on one particular saw, but it worked dramatically well.

I'll let you run it when I see you next. It pulls like a freight train.

It is neither overly restricted, nor overly open, it is just right for that saw. It is a Huztl muffler with a 1/2 hole drilled through the baffle, with no other mods (but the Huztl comes with addl ports in the cover). The first muffler had the baffle removed, and addl openings. The saw just did not like it. Don't know what else to say, it does not bother me that I can not explain why it worked, I'm just glad that it worked.

Twin II was definitely weaker than Twin I, and now it is not (in fact, I think it is stronger, but they both run well).

Proof is always in the pudding, does not matter what anyone else thinks. I think it must have something to do with the port timing of that particular saw.

Just like the HD-50 (461) carb improved the performance of my MOFO 460 by a good amount. Did not work on any of my other saws, but it worked on that one. I can not explain that either, but I'll let you run that saw against any other ported 460, and I think you will be impressed.

I like finding what works. I would like to be able to explain why it works, but I'll do it even when I can't explain it.

And I share things so that maybe someone more knowledgably than me can explain it.

Mike,
Last time when you posted a similar comparison of the different carbs, you didn’t even try tuning them, you didn’t try finding the max rpm in the cut, you just installed it and ran it.

Did you try finding the best tune, in the wood when you did this muffler comparison ?

With the discoloration right next to where it broke...looks like it may have had a bit of a crack in it before it cut loose?

I would say you r right but also I pulled the air filter on it here about a month ago and there was as much dirt in the the intake as there was on the out side of the filter. So it was doomed anyways

My friends $40 backpack blower with the busted piston is still running fine lol. I found it at a pawn shop last year and stripped it down and stopped when I found the piston. He said let’s see what it does and it’s still going strong.
