Good deal my friend. I’m happy it’s worked out for you and him. What does he think of it.
That's a friend's bar when i find one
For it I'll give it to him.
It's much lighter than his 290.
And it's very easy to start
Dealer said nobody rebuilds these
That's why he doesn't stock parts lol
It was only 16-18.00 to rebuild it
With am parts.

Got a front tine tiller, a generator, and that wood chipper dropped off from my dad today. Tiller I just had to tighten the spark plug ( guess it had loosened over the 15 years of not cranking?) and it’s good to go. Thought it was just a cheap one but looked up maxim chain drive and was surprised to see the price from $700 to$1500 new lol. Generator can’t get it to hit a lick at all even with starter fluid so I’m looking into it more. The chipper needs a carb took the bowl off the old tecumseh and it was gunked up all in there. Luckily a new carb is only $10.50 for it. It’s got a pretty cool name. It’s a Troy bilt super tomahawk or something like that lol.

I have not ran a 357
I have a 359 that I ported that runs well.
I loaned it to a tree service for a bit....
They didn't blow it up.... Only saw of the four I loaned them that came back running.

And I've never seen a saw lose from adding muffler opening. It's just not as user friendly

Well, I just put a more restrictive muffler on Asian Twin #2 today, and I'm telling you it has more torque, and the Hi does not need to be adjusted as far out.

Now I'm not claiming this is a universal thing, but on the saw I have, it worked. (Asian 660 w/Cross P+C w/o base gasket).

My theory, and it is just a theory (I welcome comments both pro + con), is that these saws tend to have a lot of intake (often 82 or more) and that restricting the muffler a bit is keeping more of the charge in the cylinder.

I tested it today (with my neighbor who is getting this saw) in Ash, we both dug the dogs in and wrenched it and did not slow it down. He was giddy!

I took a replacement Huztl muffler, drilled a 1/2" hole in the back of the baffle, and left the rest of it as is. Works for me!

I don't have a dyno, so its just a theory. I'm wondering if what you're feeling is a slight reduction in hp, making it feel like it has more torque

More restrictive muffler could cause the saw to run a bit hotter. Higher temps MAY cause better detonation, thus creating more power. Just theorizing. Lol

I'm not following your statement, but if you are saying that peak power is not greater, but the range is, that is very possible. I like to lean on a saw, and before I could not, but now I can. Since this saw will be used for milling, this is what we want.
