Step by step, probleby the slowest project I ever have done, still lots left to do, 266 xpg, ported it also and coke gasket. Dont know witch year it was made, but decal and carb tells me something around 1986. This 266 was a bonus, it came with a bunch 262's.......
Not really happy with the compression as it look, dunno what I should expect though.....

This weekend will also be carb work, screwed up buying k20hda, but seems it can still be used on hda 98,120,87.... and a bunch k24hda for 199 carbs :)

Bet the compression is higher the gauge says cause that hose is really long

Nothing on the bench today. Spent the morning cleaning and getting tools set on new metal bench I had made for the middle of the shopView attachment 14136View attachment 14137
you have a nice working room, and you defently have far more system then what I have!

I was a bit dissapointed by the compression reading, I had no muffler or carb on when I did it, not sure if it mather or not. I also expect it to gain a tad more since the ring have not set. i bought the snap on tool on ebay, do you think I should get a shorter hose to it?, I mean, do I get wrong reading because of the hose.
I am also building one 254 SG and that one reach 215psi, but the 266 was far more harder to pull, 266 is a monster compared to the 254.
Squish is btw 0.018" on the 266, widen exhaust port, square intake and bridge ports.

Hose length makes no difference.
Someone tested that but I can't remember who.
great :) no need to buy more for the snap on then :)
Doing compression test, does it mather if the test is done with or without muffler and carb? Just currious to know.

If you like your tester keep it and don't compare it to another one.

You can get caught up wondering if it's right. I use one tester and whatever it reads is what I go with.
yeah, I will only have one tester, it would be a nightmare to have several with different reading.
Very happy with the snap on

Hose length makes no difference if there is a Schrader valve in the tip that screws in to the spark plug hole. Without the Schrader valve the hose effectively add a lot of "head space" about the piston and will affect the reading on a small displacement engine like our saws.

The longer the hose is like having a bigger combustion chamber you have more capacity to fill. A short hose on ur same Guage will show a higher pressure. Long hose is fine if your dealing with a big bore n stroke.

I think redbull tested it.
Nope. Redfin and I both did. Same exact results. Longer the hose and smaller the engine = more pulls to achieve max compression IF there's a valve in the very bottom of the hose. If not, then yes, you'll get a lower reading with a longer hose
