At last, I got something done today, new bearings and seals for Husky 42 special, new bearings for the 254, just wait for a pack seals to come for the 254 before I can continue on that one.
Tomorrow I have plans to really figure out the difference between 42 and 42 special in compression.

Most people know that Husky 242 PTO bearing is NLA. I hunted down 3 new bearings in Norway for the future so I am fine, but, one 242 lover cant get enough though, so here it go.....
Many isnt aware that Husky used those PTO bearings in other saws also, and since they had less RPM they are normally in better condition vs 242 bearings.
Husky 40 Practica, 44 Practica, 44, 444, 340, 344 have the same bearing as 242.

Btw, this is one 340

it was a nightmare, bought one from a shop I know have good stock, got one from another chain, and last one was pure luck.
Old traditional Husky dealers who have been dealer for at least 20 years on business is your biggest chance to get one of those bearings from ;)

If you can't find one new PTO bearing, simply find one nice 44, get out the bearing and trow the rest.
44 is pretty much worth nothing and there is many of them

you never know, I think you will find them, it's just take alot research and off course luck.
Find those old Husky dealers where you live, and the odds are high.
Tell you, I visit one shop in Norway, they had 3 PTO bearings lol, I was allowed to buy one, they somehow wanted to keep 2 because they like tradition.

I have also one 42 that I want to try out something new, i belive it's possible to put in one 6201 bearing, make something similuary seal holder as we have on 254, shave of the oil pump a tad.......will be tight......

Step by step, probleby the slowest project I ever have done, still lots left to do, 266 xpg, ported it also and coke gasket. Dont know witch year it was made, but decal and carb tells me something around 1986. This 266 was a bonus, it came with a bunch 262's.......
Not really happy with the compression as it look, dunno what I should expect though.....

This weekend will also be carb work, screwed up buying k20hda, but seems it can still be used on hda 98,120,87.... and a bunch k24hda for 199 carbs :)

This is what I am working most with, 242 PTO bearing, as some will see the one to left have 6201 bearing while the other one has the NLA bearing.

A friend of me making seal holder, hopefully I get it tomorrow, the plan,,,,well, kinda plan, is to use the oil pump to press the seal holder to the bearing with one o-ring to seal the holder. It will be a tight fit though.
If I can get it to work I will make one thread about it with drawing and dimensions for the seal holder.

Next to my bench at the shop, Oregon
Gotta 362C sitting on my bench...just installed a new tank housing and all the gadgets for the handle because the old tank housing's handle was Gone. lol Gotta CS400 that's done....customer has a 24 inch bar on it( idiot). And I'm working on an Echo cultivator. Complaint that the customer put a brand new carb on it and the unit still ran like crap....when I tried to prime it pretty much nothing happened....fuel lines look good but seemed to fit awfully loose....tank vent may be part of the problem as well. I'll find out tomorrow I guess.

Today I got the time to play with Husky 42 jugs, one is 90 the other 97 special. I always wanted to know the difference between 42 and 42 special, and I think there is none.
7 jug and 241A:
_DSC2226.jpg

Squish without gasket is 0,014" on the 7 jug while 0,016" on 241A jug.
Under here is some compression test...7 jug have a tad more compression
