I use spikes myself Randy, but a sled would be a brilliant solution.Husky and Stihl both sell a "sled" that replaces the spikes. You should look them up Tor.
reason why most remove them is due all the limbing work they do, special on spruce's, gotta admit it goes way faster without spikes lol old man limbing style!!!Looking at those photos...really makes one realize how much spikes help protect the saw!! Lol. Why no use of spikes there?
I never had a spike on my 242 xp when softwood harvesting back in the day ether Tor. Had a few Husqvarna saws come in with that "bumper thingy " replacement for the dawg on them . Got one from a J Red 630 in the draw !waiting for parts....most of the times I order from my nice dealer I place in a couple service tools in the order.

Ive seen a lot of Huskys here with them, but I never seen a Stihl with one. Didn't know they even made them.Husky and Stihl both sell a "sled" that replaces the spikes. You should look them up Tor.

agree Simon, also, one reason why the spikes get removed in Norway/Sweeden and probleby in UK as well is mostly because people run them with a short bar, when we're down in 13" you just dont want the spikes, and most lads in our countries run them between 13-15".I never had a spike on my 242 xp when softwood harvesting back in the day ether Tor. thanks Brian, you're right, had to dive into those IPL's, most of Huskies models has bunpers or spikes, time for me to buy some for my 346'sIve seen a lot of Huskys here with them, but I never seen a Stihl with one. Didn't know they even made them.
