I finished up the 790 but neglected to take any photos other than this...bored 0.020 oversize.

I am now trying to get a few customer saws done and out of the way.

The 056 is done and ready to cut wood. The 042 needs a fuel cap & gasket; this one is evidently cracked and leaks badly. I also had to replace the fuel line in the 042...someone had been into it before.

I opted for Tygon and a grommet, just assuming OEM fuel lines for the 042 might be hard to locate.

HL suppy have both fuel and oil lines (the rubber one under the muffler) for the 042, I've just used one myself: https://www.hlsproparts.com/Stihl-042-048-fuel-line-p/h19048.htm

Interestinig, if you search the HL site for 042 parts they actually show two different fuel line options.

Unfortunately, no fuel caps...

I've got a few NOS OEM 0000 350 0520 caps somewhere, if you can't find one. If that's the right part number?

I'm still trying to track down the correct PN. I have another message indicating a different PN (1117 350 0500) but listings for that part do not reference the 042 (117-350-0500 Fits Models 036, 038, 044, 066, 045, 048, 056 & 064). I know the cap on the 056 I have here is quite different and does not fit the 042. The cap on the 028 I have here is also different.

I realize the cork gasket I have on it is not correct, but that's not where it is leaking.

The ones that I have look like this. Apologies for the poor photo. It's a magnified thumbnail from the eBay auction that I won. I'll try to find them at the weekend.

Next project, try to make one McCulloch 73 runner out of several parts saws.

20230523_140650.jpg

The one on the left turns over with good compression but the starter and gearbox cover are trashed.

20230523_142912.jpg

Clutch was collateral damage...

20230523_142926.jpg

Bits were broken off the starter cover/housing.

20230523_143034.jpg

Some major swapping will be in order.

I had the 73 together and running today, discovered a crack in the gear case cover that was weeping oil so I took it back down to clean it up an try a JB Weld repair.

20230525_145149.jpg

While the JB was curing I went back to this Poulan 5400 that I now have seals for thanks to Ted Loosi.

Found them! They are a newer design but I think they would fit.

I believe that the original part number was 1117 350 0500 and that 0000 350 0520 replaced it.
