They stay open better, especially on saws that have been machined to raise compression, plus you can drill them if they are borderline, which gets them to work again.

One of these days, I am going to take a few of these Stihl decomps and see about adding additional openings to them, see if it helps
The last couple decomps I used on machined and ported 088/880 were actually 1128 decomps. I drilled out the hole in the 1128 decomp to 1/16 and then drilled another 1/16 hole 180* from the first one. They worked great.

Moved a saw over on the shelf and I sprung a leak...

So then did the acc pump block off on carb #1... Then did the final assembly..

I stumbled over a McCulloch BM 3200 blower in my shed that is a freebie .It might be my next project .I am assuming it to be just a carb that needs refreshed because this is what kills most of them .
Both my computers are at the tech guys place after replacing both hard drives .I've never tried to reload operating systems although I can usually stumble through every thing else .At the present time I'm using lady fairs lap top .As soon as I get them going I'll E-Bay the rebuild kit for the blower .

The spread at work for lunch today. In addition to my birthday on Wednesday, there were 2 more birthdays at work this week and the bosses wife's birthday is Sunday.

Quickly looked at a br600 last night that wasn't running correctly, compression felt weak when I pulled it over, going to put the gauge on it this evening and if it's low I'll check/adjust the valves and recheck.

Well the little Mac blower was pretty simple. Both the prime bulb line and the carb feed were broken off .I'll order a carb rebuild kit Walbro WT 615 . It was a little stiff from sitting a long time .A good spritz of WD 40 and a brisk rollover with a battery drill limbered it right up .I think I have some of that teeny weeny fuel line some place ,the question is where ?

BR600 diagnosis. Compression didn't seem the best but I did learn that they have a compression release. Valve adjustment kit on the way. Plug was wet with fuel. Definitely running very rich. If the valve adjustment helps with the compression I'll recommend a carb along with fuel and air filters and a plug. I will probably do a leakdown test as well.

I know alot of our park service br600s died due to crank seals. The fan wheel is a fantastic P.I.T.A to get off.

Well (with the impulse attached) it tuned super easy and sounds nice.
Went back inside in the light I could see the fuel line grommet is seeping fuel around the outside.
Swapped it out and took the carb back off.
The throttle trigger felt tough/sticky to me so I went back through the throttle plate/shaft and lubed and "better aligned" it all up. Much smoother now.
This polished turd will get a bar and chain tomorrow and I will have to go find something to cut....
