Most likely will be this old girl, was bucking a 24" tree I felled this morning and all of a sudden while in the cut ,went wide open throttle and only thing I could was kill it with the switch. Wondering if she blew a seal and started sucking air

Any oil, fingerprints etc will effect the blueing.
Heat is good, hot metal means open pores.

Do not dip your rag into the blueing after you have applied some to the metal it kills the remaining blueing liquid.
Use some gun cleaning patches and use a fresh one each time.
If you want a real hot salt blue find a gunsmith. That process takes equipment, heat and knowledge. I did it for a while,it is a pain but it is pretty.
The acetone/cleaner will hide in the seams like where the nose connects to the bar. A little heat will evaporate it.

Clean is the most important part.

Those bars look good, i like it.

Try some case coloring/case hardening that would look cool too.

As Colin Clive said in the 1931 film Frankenstein, ITS ALIVE!!

Runs pretty damn good!

Going to JB Weld the tank for now and if I get a chance I'll pull it apart again and seal it up properly.

Picking up a new Oregon chain tomorrow after work.

Hope to get it tuned at Dan's this coming Sunday.

Thanks Jeff! It seems like a lot of the older Stihl models have outboard clutches. My dad's 032 has one, along with my 051. Actually the new Stihl top handle saws are setup that way. I don't know why.

I wants ....I needs.. :babeando: I'm up to my eyeballs in dirty fire wood right now. Semi-chisel ain't gonna be enough Gonna pick up a loop of .325 and low pro tonight and try it out on Thursday. That pic gives me a better idea of how the cutter was formed. Is the carbide cap soldered or welded to the chain?
