One thing I don't get is max bar recommendation from any manufacture and almost everyone on this site cuts it down by 4" or more and worries about ruining saw by running max length ?
My first saw was a 290 20" bar and did anything I asked up to 40" red oak? maybe slower ? I'd probably still be running if I hadn't hurt my back ( not saw related ) and bought some saws on CL for something to do while I was off work found these sites fixing up and caught CAD. Damn you guys
Although I prefer this site over the others. FWIW

MAN CARD: Buy an old quality NOS bar from Jon1212 that dates back to the days when MAC & Poulan saws were the loggers choice.
LOSE MAN CARD: Buy expensive Japanese RW shiney bar that you refuse to wear clear coat off for photographic reasons.

Bigger bars sell saws to people that don't know any better. Doesn't matter if it can pull it.
That's how we end up with the new plastic home-owner saws sporting a 20" 3/8 on a 50cc clamshell with a cat muffler (which has a pin hole for an outlet)

I don't think they will be slower. Just use big test wood. No 16" Poplar.

Gonna try to find some16-20" range. Bout where a 60cc works best. Bigger than that you will probably grab a 70cc, and 50cc for smaller.
