Funny you mention shooting. My wife and I compete at club level. 200 and 300 yard eggs shoots. Small not medium or large. My barrels are Shilen. They need no break in and they will tell you so because they are hand lapped to a mirror finish inside. They also, against many folks beliefs, say to clean only when accuracy degrades and only clean enough to bring said accuracy back. Over cleaning can actually ruin a barrel. Ive seen guy clean after every shot string. And they ate replacing barrels every 1000 rounds. I only clean when groups open up and only then. I also only use Wipe out bore cleaner. No brush touches my bore. Foam it. Let it work. Wipe it out with a patch. Repeat as needed.

But since you did; my main hunting battery consists of 2 Reminton 700 actions (270 Win and .338 Win Mag) and a Winchester Super X (.416 Rem Mag) all built up by Lex Webernick of Rifles Inc with Shilen barrels

All shoot sub MOA with full bore hunting loads

Like you, cleanings are few and far between

I use Butch's Bore Shine mixed with Kroil for a soak and follow up with nylon brush and cotton flannel patches with a final Kroil dampened patch for storage

Always top quality Dewey rods and custom turned bore guides

I have been known to use J&B paste on factory rifles just to ensure a good smooth bore to get started or when I am helping someone shooting minute of paper plate with a neglected shooter that has had zero maintenance

Couple 5 shot groups from my match rig @100 yards on my test range. I shoot all small stuff. This is a 204 ruger. Wife shoots 22ppc. Im going to build a 6mm Dasher next on a Big Horn single shot action and a Shilen barrel. Bixon Andy trigger. Life is to short fir inaccurate rifles. Of course that is relative to the task. I bang steel gongs on our 400 yard range at home for more relaxing fun. 10" plate accurate is enough for that game. But when i pull out the serious iron, and egg shooting is serious business, its 1/4 moa or you don't do well. It's nuts.

Egg shooting is new to me

Im all out of boats and snowmachines so OPE is all I run mix in

I used to dump a bottle in my motorhome several times a summer and I would get rid of odd oils that way but it is sitting on a lot in Phoenix hopefully getting sold soon

So I have a multi year supply built up

I actually ordered the K2 and Motul when I was waiting on my for my first MMWS saw to be built because they were part of the in-crowd of oils at that point in time

I know K2 is still highly regarded

I ended up not using them because Randy asked me what oil I had been using when he tore the saw down and after I told him I had been running Saber he told me to keep using it

In Hawaii I only have Yamalube 2R cause I get it shipped free off eBay although here in Alaska it is dirt cheap at the Yamaha shop

Saber comes from the grocery store down the way

The "boat oil" is for a rainy day, although I gave my son 3 bottles to run in his MS-660 for milling

The Squeal dealer had him running Squeal Ultra....

Anyway, thats about all I have on oil and I have a plane to Hawaii to catch in the morning so I am sacking out

I don't do any of that stuff. I do make sure I mix fresh fuel with my mix to stabilize it. I don't empty my saws or add anything else. Worse, since I am a Tax Preparer, my saws don't get touched for 2.5 months (Feb 1 - April 15). I purchased my 044 new in Dec 92. It has original bearings, P+C and rings and still runs very strong. Carb has been rebuilt, seals have been replaced.

I ran mineral 15W40 (tractor diesel engine oil) in my dads little single ring 40cc Sachs-Dolmar 105 at no less than 25:1 for decades.
Other than huge carbon deposits in the exhaust port, piston top and cylinder top the engine is healthy as can be been made 1985.
Till 2006. this little bugger was our ONLY firewood saw, not counting the electric 220Volt Sachs-Dolmar 285 which I melted the plastic housing pretty quick while bucking dry locust.

I only tore the SD105 down because I thought I seized her up but she wasn't - the clutch blew and locked her up tight.

I use red Dolmar 50:1 2-stroke oil at 40:1, and I stocked up on red Makita 50:1 2-stroke oil which I will use next.

I figure most automotive oils mixed at a reasonably heavy ratio will protect a saw fine. You get the carbon like you mentioned but they are lubed. It was the way they did it back in the day as we all know. Im interested in lean ratio testing on ope that i got free or cheap with the oils not typically used in a 2 stroke, some in any engines. Bar oil, air tool oil ect. Backwoods Science!

Not much science in that, just the human nature of wanting to see something come apart.

Pick a saw, runner or not, and shoot it with a .50 caliber.
Quicker results and much more fun than breathing in burnt ATF oil fumes!

(Are you using TCW-3 in saws? My understanding is that it shouldn't be used in air-cooled engines because they get a lot hotter than water-cooled engines and soot up with TCW-3...)

I ran straight castor oil in a saw. Gummed up the muffler at the first tank. But the engine itself is lubed good.

This takes me back to the days that Chevron (whatever they were called) stations carried “white gas” in bulk for the stove and lantern

My echo leaf blower has several gallons of the camp fuel ran through it. Running rc cars back in they day I lost count of how many gallons I used in those. One car had a starting issue if it was under 60° outside. That's the only "problem" I've encountered over 15 years of use. I currently run it in a couple saws, the toro snowblower, string trimmer and the leaf blower. E free gas wasn't available here in my area until recently. After I use up the 6 gallons I have I may switch to gasoline because its $3.69 / gallon. For everything but the ported saw. It will get a special blend.

I've ran some petroleum paint thinner in generator. That stuff smells like kerosene. Engine ping though. It doesn't like it but idle just fine.
Edit: That thinner can't be lit by a match. Maybe it's straight kerosene? ? Evaporate slower than gas. Bought it from the paint store.

Hello buddy! Im still on Maxima K2, Red Armor, Dolmar Synthetic, and Klotz Original Techniplate. Nothing has carboned up or blown up at 40:1
