Yeah, Opti-2 is one of them. There are several other brands of it floating around. I don't care how good the oil is, I ain't runnin' anything on 70:1. Bad idea!
Ya previous management pushed that crap. Still have people wanting it. Try explaining 72:1 is not for any machine. Especially when every manufacturer says 50:1. Granted I am sure it is probably ok for very light use applications.

I'm kind of an oil freak, always have been. I use synthetic and change my car and truck oil at 2500 miles. Planning to experiment with synthetics in my air cooled four strokes, always used 30w dino oil changed every 10 hours. I don't know of any synthetic 30w out there, I wonder if 10w-30 or 10w-40 would work? Supposedly, a small air cooled engine will burn more oil if multigrade is used.

I had a local lawn care guy tell me they use 10-40 in all his stuff. Holds up better in the heat.

Been using 10w-40 in my 1955 tractor for a long time with good results. B&S now recommends 5w-30 and 10w-30 for use in all temperatures, synthetic or dino. Looks like dino oil is about to go extinct in my garage!

Unless its a new and tight tolerance motor I wouldn't use synthetic. I'm just going off experience here. Wifes Subaru I put synthetic in it was a quart low at 200 miles. Switch to synthetic blend no problems. It said full synthetic on the oil change sticker but who knows.

Do you know if it burned it or leaked it? Some engines just don't like the stuff. On the other hand, I switched to full synthetic at 243k on my 2004 Dodge Dakota and it is doing just fine, doesn't lose a drop.

It can do both. From my understanding which is limited is synthetic is smaller on a molecular level allowing it to squeak in the smaller areas better and oil more efficiently. So if you stuff is half way clapped out like mine then you probably shouldn't use it lol. Now new cars motors are built so tight that they can use a 5-20 or a 0-30 and they are only found as a full synthetic and if you tried to use a dino grade you'd be hearing some chatter pretty quick .

If you are changing your car and truck at 2500 miles and you are using full synthetic oil, you are wasting money. Should be good for 7500 before a change is needed. Do a UOA and have it checked. You'd be surprised.

Friend, I'm sure you are correct but I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing. Synthetic gives much better wear protection, however the longer you leave any oil in there, the more combustion by products build up and the less effective the oil filter becomes. As an engine wears, the faster this happens.

I've done this for every vehicle I've ever owned and they all still ran just fine when I sold them with well over 200k on the clock, usually close to 300k. I get rid of vehicles when the body is trashed and/or I have an opportunity to get something better. I still spend under $20.00 on each oil change, which is also an opportunity to examine the vehicle for other problems. It may seem crazy but it's not insanity: I'm doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results!!

I have a diesel. I change my oil once a year. I average about 15K miles a year. I have the oil checked through a UOA (Blackstone labs). They always say I can go longer. But at that point I change it. I use Mobil 1 Diesel 5W40 synthetic oil.

I change oil in my 92' Chevy 4x4 350 every 2500 miles. But I only put around 5000 miles, or less, a year on it. I use Valvoline 10w-40 conventional oil. My buddy uses 10w-40 in the winter and 20w-50 in the summer.
I change my own oil for $25 or less with Fram filter.
