i got a f150 with a iron block 302. it puffs a little smoke on start up and leaks a little out of the rear main so my make up oil in 10,000 miles is 3 quarts. i use a wix xp oil filter.
I like the Wix filter or the Napa Gold which is the same

0-20 Mobil 1 lasts 10k miles in my wife's Toyota van without issue. It just rolled 150k miles and runs like new.

I drive a company vehicle, so fleet changes it every 5k, with a different oil every time. It runs like crap at 180k miles. It might not be scientifically proven, but I don't like switching oils on an engine.

My favorite oil filter is Purolator. Seems to be the best combination of economy and quality. Stupid Walmart keeps not carrying them, have to make a special trip to Meijers. Rural King is my current favorite place to buy oil. I get their store brand synthetic for around $2.50 a quart.

Ever have an oil filter on so tight you have to drive a nail through the side and beat with a hammer to remove? I only tighten by hand now....never with an oil filter wrench.

Yeah y'all fellas need to get an oil filter wrench. I've seen guys rip the whole bottom of the filter off trying the nail an screwdriver trick. Get a wrench to get them off. I had to fix a couple of those filters. Literally peeled them off with a long chisel. There is most certainly a wrench for any vehicle that will fit each and every filter. Just go ahead and save the headache. I personally never use a wrench to tighten. They never need to be that tight. Just to get the filter off

The hydrostatic filter on my Kubota was installed so tight at the factory that three guys with two strap wrenches and an oil filter wrench all pulling simultaneously couldn't budge it. I ended up tapping on the edge with a chisel at a glancing angle while the other guys pulled on their wrenches and it finally loosened up.

My Camry has a canister, so oil filter "wrench" (it's really more of a socket type thing that takes a 15/16th wrench to turn lol). My little Nissan hardbody gets the plier type wrench taken to it if it doesn't want to come off.

Biggest reason I service my cars now. One the Toyota place will not change the oil at 5k no matter what, and two the little twerps tighten everything up so tight it feels like they will eventually strip it out. I drive a lot for work (hospice nurse) and I've tried to help change a few of the people that I work with tires, when someone wailes on a lugnut with a 600+ ft pound impact there is nothing you can do to get it off on the side of the road if you have a flat tire. The first time that happened to me I went and bought a -/2 torque wrench and now tighten mine to 90-100 foot pounds (Toyota calls for like 76). People that service all these vehicles are just completely incompetent now a days.

Do you have a Peerless Tire in your area? The ones here use torque wrenches. And my Toyota dealer uses Chevron and when I took it in first time at 5 they said we can change it but its really good till 10k. And the only reason I take that in is its still under warranty.

Has anyone used the K&N oil filters that have the lug on the end? Its super helpful and in the grand scheme of things and extra $7 is well worth not fighting *s-word.

None that I know of. Since I drive a good bit (91k in 3 years on my Camry, driving is kinda sporadic though. I drove 1 k in the first week I had it cause I was on call, or my first oil change would've been 500 miles) I like to change the oil myself anyway. Gives me a chance to really look my car over every month and a half or so. Bought to have to change my factory brakes. My dealer tried to tell me the 10k thing even when I was willing to pay them while I had my free ones. As far as I can tell Honda uses a special break in oil that doesn't need to be changed for at least 5k but Toyota doesn't. Not real worried about what my original dealership thinks anyway after seeing how they treat unknowingly little old lady's. New dealership has treated me well when I need them.

Yeah my last free oil change I saw them carry the same old heaped up with crap cabin air filter to 3 different people saying it needed to be changed to the tune of probably $50. I change my own for $7 when I remember I even have one.
