Out of curiosity I pulled a muffler cover off of a 661 that had been run strictly on e free and red armor since new. Roughly 200 gallons of fuel. I'm not sure I like what I seen, but all was good. Pics are decievingIMG_20161123_192503.jpg

Almost a year later and none of my saws have blowed up @50:1 it's crazy
I build a bunch of production/falling saws for a few big mills here and when the weather is good, one of those saws will cut 30000+ feet in a 5 day week and the oil could be called Jesus and @32:1 but there still going to blow up and wear out.

They always ran orange bottle stihl at 50:1 for years but I finally got them to run 40:1 a year or longer ago.
Needless to say it hasn't hurt my business any.
It probably helps some but putting a couple gallon through one every day there's not anything gonna prolong what's coming other than a clean airfilter and common sense.
I'll take those from a guy who's running a saw I built over what oil or ratio he's using.

Yes sir. Lotta truth there

30,000 ft? Y'all s timber must be smaller. That's a couple days here. Probably different scale, I bought a skidder from a guy near potosi and he said you guys don't use Doyle.

Southern Illinois logger?
Absolutely your timber is bigger.
Man has to cut and top a bunch of trees and day here to do that.

I'm bout a hour away from Potosi
Ain't much but logging out this way
Timbers been picked over pretty good.

Good timber here is 20-24" on the stump

We run big saws with 24" bars
My cousin cuts in Illinois and he's always got a 32 or 36" on his

Yes, southern Illinois. Not sure if long bars are needed though.

Lol, there is still some big hardwood timber.

I'm not located in the deep southern part of Illinois, but I log there. Draw a line east of stl.... There I be

Right on.
When I was a kid we would live in Mt sterling all summer while dad worked for a crude oil outfit.
I believe it's a little north of St Louis though on the Illinois river.

I got a uncle still there

here is one on my old family farm the only tree is will not bother it is a maple.

Their is a point that if your running 50:1 vs 32:1 you could buy a new saw for the price savings of 50:1 on oil. Oil is an expense for me as I've got several saws running each day... I know it'll be many gallons but their will be a point where you could buy a new saw... Thoughts???

Same can be said for buying boutique oils for a saw vs the cheapest oil a guy can find

How many hundred gallons? Say a new saw is $1000. How much does oil cost and how long would it take?

I think if you had one serious breakdown that could honestly be attributed to oil ratio, (unlikely, yes), the pennies you saved would be long gone for a long time.

I can get a the cheapest 20L full synthetic 2 stroke oil for around 90€,
at 1:50 I get 1000L of mix which equates roughly to ~1000hr of run time
at 1:40 I get 800L of mix which equates roughly to ~800hr of run time
at 1:30 I get 598L of mix which equates roughly to ~598hr of run time

edit...

edit: made a major mistake, should fit better now.
