I think makita and dolmar are the same company so the name on the bottle should not matter ?
Yes, Makita owns Dolmar (sadly) and I've been told that the oil comes from the same manufacturer/factory.
But, 9 years of running Dolmar oil and I never encountered any unburnt oil!
Just 2-3 tanks into the Makita oil and the mufflers exhaust port started dripping a few drops of oil.
A few more tanks of Makita mix and the entire muffler seam is showing "oily moist".
As I ran out of Dolmar oil I side stepped to Divinol mixed at 40:1.
It started to cause a black shiny "glazing" on the mufflers exhaust port.
This glazing is resistant to everything but scratching, it is like a layer of enamel.
I stopped using Divinol for my saws the moment I received the Makita oil.
Due to the article availability inconsistencies of the Croatian Dolmar/Makita distributor I now get all my saw related stuff from Germany - so far everything great.
Noticed oil brand differences:
- Dolmar oil @ 50:1-40:1 - dry black soot at the mufflers exhaust port , smoke only while engine cold , no uncomfortable smell nor headache in 9 years of usage
- Makita oil @ 50:1-40:1 - small amount of black unburnt oil being expelled at the mufflers exhaust port and muffler halves seam, very little smoke on cold start , no uncomfortable smell nor headache using it for about a year now
- Divinol oil @ 40:1 - black shiny enamel like "glazing" at the mufflers exhaust port , smoke throughout all engine temperature states , smells OK but the smoke causes headache, stopped using it for my saws within a couple tanks of fuel
This is the Divinol oil (OPE forum software is turning the pictures sideways!):
The glazing caused by the Divinol oil (the scratches are from removing the spark arrester screen), the glazing is wipe and solvent resistant:
Wet soot from using the Makita oil, it is trying to exit the muffler all around the mufflers seam:
I couldn't find any pictures of my saws mufflers while I was using the Dolmar oil, but it was always fairly dry soot (and quite possibly the cause of my PS-6400's carbon scoring).
Still I intend to use Dolmar oil once I spend the Makita bottle.
