Oil test update -

I am going to have Tree Monkey mill me up some 8'8" x 10" x 12" oak hardwood cants for the oil test. Figure 9 of them will create a 36" across and 30" down. Figuring that is going to be the best way to keep the wood consistent etc. Given I have 12-14 oils x 3-4 ratios per oil. That is approx 50 x 2 cuts. So figuring I'll need to setup two of these. He wants $600. Anyone want to help out on the cost?

I am working on a thermocouple for the temps inside the cylinder temps and maybe exhaust temps. Also going to try and rig up something to watch the RPMs

I've made up (50) new 36" .404 .063 104dl Stihl chains

list of oils -

benol - 32 36 40 45:1
super techniplate - 32 36 40 45:1
original techniplate 32: 36 40 45:1
R50 - 32 36 40:1
mobil 1 32 36 40:1
honda hp2 32 36 40:1
H1R - 36 40 45:1
Si7- 32 36 40:1
amsoil saber 32: 36 40:1 45:1
dumonde tech 32: 36: 40:1
2R - 32:1 36:1 40:1
trufuel 40 and maybe 50:1
schaeffers 32 36 40:1
opti 2 - 32: 36: 40:1
K2 - 32: 36 40:1
motul 800 32: 36 40 45:1
red armorer 32 36 40:1

that is over 50 tests. I am guessing some will be eliminated because heat and time will fall off making a higher ratio a waste of time to test.

I figure it will may take 2 full days to do them all.

other costs - approx 50 empty water jugs @ .88 per
approx 50 x .5 gal = 25 gal of gas
other odds and ends I'm not sure yet on with the thermocouple or tach setup.

Testing will be done at tree monkey's mill. There isn't enough time to drive somewhere else and I'll be hauling 50 jugs of gas and he's only an hour away. If I need anything his shop is right there. Anyone is welcome to come to this thing...I just don't know when exactly yet. I figure the hotter the better...so I'm not in a hurry...yet. There are some loose ends here and there to still figure out as well.
I've got an idea for the rpm and temp probe.

My buddy borrowed my EGT Avenger 2 Racepack, he had it on his snowmobile but doesn't really ride anymore. I had plans to put it on my pipe saw but that isn't gunna be done for a while

Good to see Redbull will be using a thermocouple :neng2kb: washer for temp testing!! Woot woot! I know this is against the religion of most of you oil burners but would it be possible to include a quality dedicated mineral base oil like Shell Advance SX in the Redbull test?? It would be good to include mineral oil & I promise it won't hurt your saw, it would be good!

Nothing stand out in those plugs. The wetness is probaly from idling or low load prior to shut down.
With that said I have never been impressed with 800, but especially in a saw. It just doesn't combust well at load appropriate to normal saw usage.

Some piston shots through the spark plug/decomp plug holes. This saw has had about 5 litres of fuel through it. That same gooey looking glaze on the piston was on the decomp plug...I'll hold back my judgement until others tell me what they think.

IMHO, the top of the piston is going to be dirty, its the ring lands that are important. Pull the muffler and take some pictures of the ring lands through the exhaust port

True and there should be deposits but atm i'm just working with the top/carbon amount.

I'd be more than happy to kick some $$ in where do I send it? Maybe a go fund me would be an option? Whatever I'm in. I applaud your efforts.:applaudit:

Thanks man.

isaac_welle@yahoo.com is my paypal. I can do a go fund me but they get like 5%.

this money ends up in Scott's hands (aka Tree Monkey) ...sending some mill work his way kinda thing.

Figure get like 30 guys to do $20 a pop that's $600...that shouldn't be too hard.

I have $1,500 just in chains + other $$$ elsewhere committed to this little test. So I'm kinda outta resources.
I'll send you something soon !

Super Techniplate is 80% Original and 20% BeNol. So it has castor in R50 does not
you think the supertechniplate would work ok in something that runs under low speed and a continuous load
