Have to buy a few new 7910’s and keep them in the box on the shelf. Pretty sure I saw them around the $800 range which is a hell of a deal these days. Inflation is a mother. Since when did the Echo 7310 become almost $1k ???

Regarding dolmar/makita parts. I thought a company was obligated to make spare parts for 7 more years after discontinuing a model. The makita representative told me so.

And if the part has a makita part number, we could just order at any makita (electric) dealer.

True!
The Europe Union does have that LAW.
But Makita is being a huge DI©K by simply marking parts as backordered and even NLA ( many PS-9010 have been "NLA" for many years even though the saw was officially sold in Europe till 2018), also they are raising prices SKY HIGH - try getting a 9010 muffler, it is 300+€ !!!

I have a 6100 and looked up parts to purchase before hand so I have them in my parts stash, believe it or not there are already parts that are listed as NLA !

The way it looks to me Makita is trying to kill off the Dolmar brand and get rid of supplying spare parts for all gasoline powered products.

We ALL should start a law suit against Makita!

As everyone can see from my signature I AM PURE DOLMAR (the ONE Makita You see is a Dolmar, don't be fooled), but Makita is overstepping the line of decency and customer support!

I would think when they knew they were ceasing production,
they would not be too bothered about parts, they are already
very difficult to get, can not see that improving.

As far as I see, parts were very difficult to get even a year ago,
joe public had no idea Makita was ceasing production of gas saws,
the dealers kept it pretty much a secret, or may be they were not even
told until it became impossible to keep it hushed up, after all who wants
shelves full of saws they cant sell, not Makita, they are in the business
long enough to keep the board happy.
Taking them to court would be great, but who is going to pay the bill,
it will also be very difficult to prove they deliberately are not stocking parts,
they could say demand for parts went way beyond their predictions, lots of
crap to deter anyone from taking them to court.

People are noticing though, lots of Makita saws pop up for sale here now,
owners getting rid of them while they can, even seeing the Maryama brand
ones popping up in the second hand markets, they used Makita engines.

I am stocking up on small ticket items.
If any big parts happen to break on any of my saws they'll get parted out.

I LOVE Dolmar, but this is ridiculous!

I used to tell locals how good the Makita / Dolmar saws were,
and how they were a good bit cheaper than other comparable saws,
I learned my lesson, no more verbally supporting any brand.

China could't make a decent Stihl or Husqvarna clone or any saw for that matter,
what would make their knockoff Makita / Dolmars any better a buy,
when most people are looking for OEM parts to put on china saws to
make them work.
Please don't give the Chinese any more bad ideas.

I can just imagine, Chills, Chuskies, and Chikitas.

Same here.
I used to praise Dolmar/Makita, now someone asks me what to get I tell them "I don't care, whatever You can get fixed locally".

That's true Wilhelm, I liked them above all other saws, even Echo,
they made more power usually in their default trim, now am back
in the Echo camp, but not pushing them.

Have a china 372xp. Works pretty well actually. Will it be as tough as the original? Probably not, but they sure are fun to try and modify and work on.

I can buy a china 372xp muffler for like €4 and try a bigger outlet or a dual outlet or an outlet on top with deflector...... If you want to have a go at porting, but don't wanna trash a good quality cylinder, you can for a fraction of the cost.
Put a aftermarket dual port ms440 muffler on a ps7900. Worked great and looks pretty good to. Didn't cost a thing ‍♂️

They definitely have their place, someone here posted 300.00 for a 9010 makita
muffler now with the shortages, that's just not right, a muffler should be a simple
task to manufacture though, no super critical accuracy required like that involved in making sure cases, crank, rod and the likes all line up with the cylinder perfectly.
Seen a guy on another site, new china 660 clone, less than a half tank most
of it idling to oil the saw up before he started, scored the piston doing nothing
more, that's how long the saw went before major failure, said metal and fuel
came out the muffler.
@Wilhelm , muffler for your Dolmars mentioned above,
wish I knew about the MS440 muffler fitting a 7900, I spent
a while prising open the one on mine, drilling out the cage
and enlarging the outlet more and cleaning all up and re assembling.

When the China saws were real cheap, they were worth a go, not so much now,
you could get a good one, or a bad one, not worth the risk.

A kit would prolly be the way to go.
I like to know what I have internally.

As mentioned earlier, it would be fun to learn on also (porting, learn how to time a saw ect).

It's a shame! Not the correct way to phase out a brand at all.
I do wonder why china never jumped on the dolmars for aftermarket parts and/or complete saws
I kinda like this idea for a completely now defunct series of saws, it you give new users a chance to run something that is likely going to be totally unavailable to them.
Hell for that matter Jonsered and old Poulan Pro models would be cool.

Better to hang on to them...

Lack of parts & saws is one thing I like about my pre-merger Shindaiwas.
