I stopped into a small Stihl dealer last year and he cut me a more than fair price on a 461R because he was tired of seeing it on the shelf said there was no interest in them.
At a larger dealer where everyone who buys in bulk goes has 6 500i’s on the shelf, 2 661’s and only one 462. On a Saturday at 11am I’ve seen it with no 500’s left but the same 462 is still there.
Folks have all different trains of thought. In about 2001 the neighbors place got sold. The new owner put in a Central Boiler 5036. I asked him what he was going to use for a saw. He had bought a new 029/290 from the local Stihl dealer. At the time they were $299.99 plus tax. He used that saw for years to supply the boiler. I believe later he bought a 066/660 but as far as I know still uses the 029/290.
A few years after that when LP skyrocketed my father in-law put in Central Boiler 5036. He had fed his add on wood burner in the basement with a Homelite Super EZ. He decided he just might need a new saw for the boiler though. He bought a 026/260. With the exception of the winter he had heart surgery and a bunch of us cut wood for him that Stihl cut all the wood that went in the boiler until he quit cutting in about 2022.
So I have not paid any attention to chainsaws for a few years and was wondering. What is the strongest 70-80cc saw currently out? Can be stock form or ported comparisons.
