60cc is a weird tweener size. I have a too many of them and now that I have my XS 346 they are almost moot. They are for 20”, they will pull 24” better than the 346, but not like a 70cc buried. (All ported) 60cc is good for a one saw plan in medium wood i think.
I ran a 60cc echo I liked pretty well. Young fella brought it on a little clearing job. Ripped pretty good. It’s just for a little tiny bit more weight the 272 was a little more machine. Can’t remember the exact model. Think it was yellow? I did like it

@FergusonTO35 I got lotsa big logs to cut…in the desert like to Aussies. And then there’s Bjarne Butler(YouTube)…6’ cedars on the sides of mountains…
Had a look at the Bjarne Butler channel, serious place to be, you wouldn't want to be
light headed on the side of those hills.

I was just wondering what ever became of that 361 the other day when I slung one for my very own 361 on the bench for major surgery, which includes replacing the crank, but not because it's bad, rather because it's getting stroked. That and I happened to buy out the last Tecomec 361 crankshaft known to the free world, so I'll have some options on hand here for the next one to come through like yours did. I think had it been ported as planned you wouldn't have want for another saw. Not that the 462 isn't a dandy either, like the 361 it turns up quite nicely as well.
Seems I've been on a 60cc class saw kick as of late, just completing a 365 Special and a 262xp and now onto a 361 and then a 359/357 that's waiting in the wings. Seems I'm over my 70cc affliction, not that I don't still have a pile of them. :)
You might be right - had the 361 been ported like I wanted, I might have loved it even more and kept it around. One of the deciding factors for me personally, was the fact that the 361 was already getting hard to get OEM parts for. And in my profession, being able to get parts and keep saws going is a big deal. I did put a Tecomec crank in that 361 also, and it was flawless and ran very strong for what it was. I have no regrets upgrading to the 462 however..

When I started working in parks our big saw was an MS361! I was just starting my collection so I used that 361 for many trees it wasn't particularly well suited for. It did do most things without much trouble though , it was a really great 1 saw plan.
I love my 034 Super and use it quite a bit.
ProMac60 does alot firewood too.

Sounds like it was John Deere branded Echo?

70 seems to be the weight limit that guys are willing to carry all day.

Now...What's the point of ANY specific cc size? Why have little ones when a bigger one will do the job? Why have big ones when a smaller ported saw will do the same thing? It's like bikes, cars, guns, etc...everyone has their favorite size(s).

I think the point David was trying to make is that these modern 80cc saws are blurring the lines between the 70 and 80cc size classes. The ms400 is doing the same thing to the 60cc class size as well. I’m a run what you like kind of guy. I’ll take the power to weight advantage, and stick to my 7910’s and ms400’s and skip the 70 and 60cc classes.

90% of my needs could be handled with a 16" 40cc saw with a good chain. In fact, I would suggest that alot of guys who think they need moar powah would do well to get a better chain and learn to properly sharpen and maintain the rakers. My Husky 440 with X series chain punches way above it's weight.

I’m not sure I can 100% agree with this. I will say I think most fellers gathering firewood for themselves could do just fine with a 2 saw plan featuring a 40cc and 60cc 2 saw plan though.

I'm not suggesting that a 40cc saw is all that anyone needs, rather that alot of folks aren't letting their saw perform as well as it could because of a crappy chain.

I have a 50, 70 & 80. Any job smaller than the 50cc calls for, I use 80V and 20V electric saws.

In about 15 years electrics will outperform 70cc saws and I'll be old enough to want that. Solid state batteries can't come fast enough for power hungry tools.
