Hello everyone,
Ive always wanted to own a stihl chainsaw, and since i dont really need one as i dont really do that much logging, i decided to buy broken one and repair it over the time, as a remedy from university :').
After 6+ months of searching i found this thing, guy asked 75$ and i said f*uck it and go for it, i mean if everything else fails im sure that ill get atleast most of the money back if i sell it in parts :') .
Everything seems in veryy nice condition ( except paint and dirt )
Cylinder has no deeper scratches at all (nothing cant be felt by hand, only seen)
The only bigger problem is that thread on flywheel side of crankshaft is f*cked up, so ill see what to do, bearings seem to be fine.

So can anyone what did i buy? Piston/Cylinder is 52mm in diameter, top cover has ms660 on it, has an old style metal flywheel, HAS a decompression valve - not a single one 064 ive seen doesnt have it, marks on cylinder are STIHL 1122 , $102 , 1A

MS650 uses the same recoil as an 066/MS660 not the same as an 064, looks like a mismatched saw to me MS660 plastics forced onto an 064 maybe
the $ on the cylinder is actually a K and and an S on top of each other and that is the manufacturer mark for Koblenschmidt, marking indicate an early cylinder casting (which doesn't mean anything really)

I've seen 066 with same recoil on john reilly's video once, im also thinking that its an old 066 with ms650 top end because it was cheaper..lol.
i just cant get the fact that it might be 064, look at the handle, plastic above fuel tank, its not like on 064, and im very sure that 064 doesnt have decomp valve.

My guess is an ms650 with an 064 recoil. I’m not very familiar with the 066/650/660 though. Someone who actually knows what you’ve got will be along shortly though.

^ This is my assessment of the saw as well.
650's are timed fairly well compared to the larger 660 cylinders of the same period, though much harder to come across, you hit a home run getting this one I believe.

Thanks guys,
I mean, i dont really mind if it is 064 or 650 or 066, my biggest concern is parts compatibility, 660 parts are much easier to find and are actually way cheaper.

I would try contacting stihl to check serial but dont know where to contact them, and im pretty sure that its not really possible for my country directly.. And i have no clue in german.

I heard that crankcases are a bit different between 660/650/066 and 064, longer and shorter or something similar.. so is anyone able to give me masurements of 066/650/066 crankcase that might be different on 064 so i can measure them and be sure?

It's a ms650 like Stump Shot said you hit a home run you got the best of two world's of the 064 & ms660 very hard to find a ms650 I've only seen one still in the box and I kicked myself for not buying it.

Would it be your opinion that the 650 is "better" than the 064 or the 660? @Stump Shot stated that timing my be better. Interesting takes on the smaller displacement model.

For the most part the 650 is a stronger saw not saying that the 064 is junk I've got one and its a darn good saw but there's stuff that I wish that were different which with the 650 has all the good changes that I would love to have on the 064 but ether way there all great Saw's it just shows how they evolved in the years.

Alright, bad/good news , cylinder bolts are M5, it appears that someone has put ms650 top end on a 064 crankcase with 660 handle and plastic covers... dont know what to think about this.
Pop the clutch out and look at oil pump like what Veljko said that will be a dead give away.

Can see oil line, so 064 crankcase.

Many parts interchange between 1122s except dreaded ignition systems, case gaskets, some recoils, fw seals, plastics, etc... lol.

I’d guess an 064 saw with 660 plastics and a ms650 cylinder. Didn’t think any 064’s came with a decomp style cylinder but doesn’t a 650 or 066/660 cylinder need to have the hole pattern slotted to bolt to the 064 cases?

The 660 will go right on if you use the 064 cylinder bolts well same size but they will need to be longer.
