I'd like some opinions on the compression I'm seeing guys.

The rings and jug were lightly oiled 5 days before the pic.

The plating was indirectly glass beaded. Not a direct hit, but wasn't covered and took on a different appearance.

2 new caber rings with a .006 end gap.

Saw sitting at 45*F

Most of my saws wind up almost exactly at the comp they were with oiled rings initially, after the rings break in.

This saws a bit colder than most upon testing.

So, should I run it and retest after the oil burns out?

Will a tank or two damage the saw with this much comp without destroying anything?

My last few ran well in the 225-240 range.

IMHO, just make a few cuts, not a whole tank.

You will have your base compression as accurately as possible before the compression increases due to the rings getting broken in.

You can decide from there

Here is my West German 024 WB
026 case and P/C.
Gasket delete squish .016
Timing advance .025-.030 off key
My first port build and I only ruined 1 cylinder. I tried to leave port timing alone.
This time I opened exhaust and muffler
Blended lower transfer almost like a chamfer.
It is 14500-14600 and four stroking
Nothing as awesome as DRF's with 300lbs compression but can't wait to get into wood.
Thanks for the help DRF

Don't get too excited about mine.

After all this work, it may still grenade.

Only one way to find out. Run it! Maybe it will be just fine! Maybe it will be your new favorite saw!!!!

I bought a few Chinese 194 knockoffs for these saws. The price was right.

But.....

The C194 has an Venturi that's .010 smaller than the real deal and smoother. The real 194 has a ridge past the Venturi that could easily be blended and opened up another .010+.

The C194's bore where it hits the intake boot is actually .010 larger than the real 194.

So, the knockoff has a .010 bigger bore, a .010 smaller Venturi, and a lower set and laterally displaced main discharge nozzle. It's gonna get a little foredom love tonight after snow preparation.

I took a good look at my comp tester last night. The tip on my new OTC tester is around .200 longer than a plug end.

I'm not sure, but I think it takes up significantly more volume than a plug does. In this tiny chamber, that may be enough for a large comp bump.

I think (and hope) my actual comp is lower than 250.

The hose also adds cc volume to the compression test ..............
A shorter hose gives a higher reading than a longer hose will

I've been confused by this as well. Very confused.

With the schrader valve, it will open into the hose volume when the chamber pressure exceeds the hose pressure. But when it's open, the volume of the hose is added to the chamber. But at the same time, the valve shouldn't open from the chamber unless the chambers pressure is higher, correct?

I tried a shortened hose and it made no difference. The OTC I'm using now actually has the longest hose of all but the highest readings.

I'm thoroughly confused.

Thats how I believe it works

I had a shorter hose, and it read a few pounds higher than my longer hose.
Gauge quality can play a big role.
I used a quality 6 inch face gauge which read up to 300# that I borrowed from work when I looked into this.
With my little 2.5 inch gauge, I couldnt really tell the difference

I am sure that I have some nice calibrated gauges in foam boxxes in the barn ............ I can dig one out and see if the range is 300, if it is, you can try it out if you want to
