I noted a page back that I had visited a collector in Oregon on my way home from the PNW GTG...this week Jay Hansen paid a visit to my place...

...I think he is regretting the loss of that nice Orline Model 129.

I am making progress on my chain display.

This was January, I have almost twice and many samples to display now.

20230113_144157.jpg

I may need to make up a second display board as this one is only 46"x46" inside the frame. I will put a row of steel pegs across the bottom to hang a few more interesting loops like 1/4" skip, 3/8 LP cutterless, .315 Pioneer, 3/8 Kolve, some carbide tipped rescue chains, maybe even a loop of scratcher.

While perusing threads on Another Site is was led to an online auction that included some saws. I couldn't pass up the opportunity and so yesterday I came home with some additional work to do getting a few of these cleaned up and moved into the display.

Solo 70

20230707_165349.jpg

Mono 86, NOS but has been stored in less than ideal conditions.

20230707_165401.jpg

Another Mono built by Orline.

20230707_165425.jpg

Another Mono, I think the model on this one reads "66".

20230707_165445.jpg

Last Mono, I am not sure what I will find under the crust. The tag says SL-246 and I believe it is also NOS but has been stored in horrible conditions.

Some Remingtons as well, the Logmaster is an early one with "Mall" still proudly announced on several of the castings.

20230707_165435.jpg

Super 660 with badly flaking paint.

20230707_165414.jpg

Super 75A with even worse paint.

20230707_165354.jpg

The paint on this one is really like new...

I did get the Solo 70 and the Canadien 177 cleaned up and running this week. The plastic top on the Solo has defied all of my efforts to remove the stains.

The air filter cover knob sort of fell apart.

20230714_064726.jpg

The Canadien also seems to run well.

I should have an oiler knob coming soon from Chris Bean and we'll see if the oil pump works as well as the primer.

Then Mono 86 cleaned up fairly well, I had to go carefully because too much cleaning would start to remove some paint.

I forgot to take any photos on the bench once it was done and the bar & chain installed. Bar is NOS Oregon Armor Tip and the chain is NOS Sabre 7/16 chipper. I did my best to reattach the model/serial number label that had peeled off.

The Red Mono (58) as restored by Ronald"T" and is a real work of art.

That Mono is a clean one Mark. Very low hour saw, To bad the tag is missing on the fan housing.

Look at the last photo above Lee, the tag came off and I did my best to reattach it.

The Mono 86 is actually NOS, just been setting under a workbench collecting grime for almost 60 years.

I had used all the tests out of my former test log so my friend Erik dropped off a new stick for me to whittle on. Erik is 6'+ tall to provide some scale to the oak log. There are some major projections on the other side, should provide me with hours of testing.

20230717_114439.jpg

His grapple truck is pretty handy (and big), he just pinched that piece of oak and hauled it out of the box, rotated it to lay on my logs underneath and set it down.

I added some vertical cuts in both ends of the test log to allow saws with shorter bars to have a chance. The McCulloch 1-86 pulls the 24" hardnose bar with great authority.

We also cleaned out the parts washer today, the intake on the pump was getting so clogged with sawdust and debris that it could hardly flow at all, that an the solvent was about 50/50 with oil by this time. Have a good look at the bottom of the tank, it won't be seen again for another 3-4 months...

We got a couple more saws cleaned up and moved into the display area today. These were from the auction a few weeks back and what a shame they were stored in such horrible conditions for so many years. The Remingtons I brought home had been run hard but these Mono's along with the 86 featured above had seen very little use.

This one is actually an O&R (Ohlsson & Rice or Orline) but branded Mono. Runs on prime now...
