I haven't ever messed with a Dolmar before but thinking outside the box a little bit, could you buy or fabricate something like this to clamp the filter to and the leave the top cover off?View attachment 35803
I like the concept there. I just have to find who sells them. I found some similar flanges for turbo set ups but there are not any specs besides 2" or 2.5" diameter.

The HD filter base does lend itself to running a big Uni or K&N while not letting a lot of chips and dust in around the carb.

We have some of those at work, I will take a look and see if any of them would work and I will let you know.

Edit- from the picture it looks like the filter base is roughly 2.5" diameter. How thick is the base? And what is the ID of the filter?

Need something to make a new elbow with a bigger inlet and a way to clamp above the base that's there or cut the hole bigger in the base.

I have spoken to folks in the states about this before.
We can get these in Australia off ebay

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-5-RC-V...434642?hash=item542e3455d2:g:P90AAOSwAuNW6iHB

They are made to fit the little carbs on an 026 but a quick hit on a lathe opens them up to bigger carbs.
Unfortunately They don't post to USA.

I am sure there are plenty of USA based members that could make one for you.
@srcarr52 made one for me and it is top notch.
look for ones for tanaka powered scooters, mobey etc.
working on one for my 026

Those mounting holes are at an angle aren't they? I didn't notice that. Any other Huskys that might be level?

Thanks! I really appreciate the tech drawings. I think the third one might work.

I need to find an alternate elbow first though. I'll have to take a photo to show the difference between the HD and non HD elbows. It's pretty substantial.

EDITED TWICE NOW TO FIX ALL MY MISTAKES :)

Ok I will try to answer a few questions on the Angry Elf Engineering stacks.
Currently four sizes/styles all custom made.
#1 fits dang near all of the Stihls from the 026 up to the MS660 with a 2" OD.
#2 fits the MS880, 088, 084 and 3120, it also fits the 075/076 and the crazy WB carb that some of us have been playing with, it has an OD of 2.49"
#3 is for the Husqvrna 288, 281, 61, 66, 266 and some of the Pioneer models with a stock 288 elbow and has an OD of 2.25", the carb bolts are slightly offset.
#4 is for the Husky 2100 , 2101 and 298, it has an OD of 2.125"
We would be open to having other models produced based on demand.
We have all four of them with Unifilters as well as just the bare stack.
Search on Angry Elf in my store for pics (sorry no nudes).
We looked at both the K&N and unifilter when we started and went with unifilter because they are washable and oil able, and seem more suited to chainsaw abuse in milling, etc.

the third model is for the Husky 288 and some of the Pioneer models, I am bringing in stock of the carb elbow as well which is needed for the Pioneer conversion
the fourth model is for the Husky 2100 and note that the carb bolts on this one are slightly offset

All four of them have a different OD and we offer them with Unifilters as well as just the bare stack.

I can measure up the OD on all of them if you guys care.

The 288 bolts should be slightly offset from center line as well, 0.065" to be exact. This one should also be able to fit late model 61 or 266 filter necks as well, 61/66/266/181/281/288 all share a flat style air filter.

I've ran K&N and UNI filters. I've had problems with the K&N's ripping out around the base from vibrations, the UNI filters so far don't have this problem.

You noticed problems with the K&N on just the older huskys or on saws in general? I could see the 2100 doin some damage to a filter, lots of vibes, not to the user but to the saw
