Any reason why JB Weld steel won't work to secure a 20 gauge steel deflector to an OEM 390 xp muffler that I've added an extra exhaust port to? Thanks.

If you cannot weld. Rivnuts are your friend. I wouldn't trust epoxy in a situation like that.

If you take care of shipping to and from me, I would be happy to weld it up for you.Any reason why JB Weld steel won't work to secure a 20 gauge steel deflector to an OEM 390 xp muffler that I've added an extra exhaust port to? Thanks.

I like the nut-rivets as well, easy to put spark screen under as well if neededIf you cannot weld. Rivnuts are your friend. I wouldn't trust epoxy in a situation like that.

I recently picked up a rivnut gun for doing muff mods that require a screen. For those that don't need the screen, welding/brazing is the way to go.I like the nut-rivets as well, easy to put spark screen under as well if needed
Would soldering it hold?
The short answer is no. Technically a lead based solder will stick to mild steel, but the melt temp is pretty low. The muffler temp could easily exceed the melt temp of the solder. As Steve said, brazing absolutely would work.Would soldering it hold?
I’ve been silver soldering my pipes in for years and have never had any troublesThe short answer is no. Technically a lead based solder will stick to mild steel, but the melt temp is pretty low. That is a brazing process, not solderingI’ve been silver soldering my pipes in for years and have never had any troubles
Thanks for the kind and generous offer. I may take you up on it if I can't find someone locally to do it very cheap. If you take care of shipping to and from me, I would be happy to weld it up for you.
Hey Bigmac. Did you cut the new exhaust hole the size of the deflector on your saw?288 deflector with nut-rivet’s on a 390View attachment 329883
