AC aluminum is always so much harder to control for me than SS over on the DC side of the TIG machine.

I've thought about doing a pop up this way before. Do you get warppage in the piston? Are you doing anything to control it , preheat , hot sand baths etc.?

I did it all backasswards, I taught myself Tig on AC Aluminum. On a Synchrowave 250.

After trading a few machines, including a Dynasty, I settled on a TA300 Arcmaster inverter.

Not as many bells and whistles as the Dynasty, but gets the job done.

Tig is 90% Indian and 10% arrow. The best Tig welder I ever saw uses a 1970 Sinewave dinosaur and can weld circle around me.

Yes. Measured before and after. Preheated.

I bought 4047 filler-approximates piston silicon content the best.

AC, 100Hz, 65%EN

It's weird bud. Tight arc.

Can dip and it's not terrible like aluminum.

But the filler wants to ball up on ya. Tough to make beads that aren't too "proud".

Nice set up with the copper "non-stick" tube to control the inside diameter.

Looks like you could mend anything but a broken heart or fix any crack but the crack of dawn.
