Uh Oh Husqvarna 395

It isn't very hard to cut the tube out using a flex shaft grinder with a ball burr. You'll need a little more torque than a Dremel. It's fairly easy to do without splitting the muffler.

I've never split any husky mufflers. 555/562 was the most aggravating to get the baffles and tube out of

Oh they're a miserable *b-word alright. I use longer nose snips, shears, pliers, short hacksaw blades, drill bits, chisels, and rotary burrs to remove little bits and pieces one by one. One thing that keeps things moving is having a cup of cold water to dip the burr bit in to cool it off every few seconds.

Yep. I use 1/4" ones that hold up a lot better. It does take an hour or longer just to gut it

I've been using the same 1/4" SGS brand double cut carbide burr which is still good after at least a hundred mufflers and damn near that many cylinders.

I don't remember what brand I have. Probably off brand.

+2 on 562 muffler being a PITA. I chuck up a 1/4” double cut burr in a drill press. Takes me about an hour as well.

Really enjoying this thread, I haven’t done a MM on my 394 yet and it’s interesting to see everyone’s methods. I think I’m going to use a tube. I’ve got some 1” in the barn...too big?

I used a 288 deflector and second port on mine. Just a single chamber no baffle muff.

I’m fairly certain my muffler is a single chamber like yours. I don’t think the 394 ever got the baffled muffler did it?

1" is great, but I weld in two 1" or two 1.25" tubes
Here is one with TWO 1.25" openings

I’m fairly certain my muffler is a single chamber like yours. I don’t think the 394 ever got the baffled muffler did it?

I've got a couple from 394's with the tube inside of their mufflers

I could swear my 394 muffler made in '93 (if I can assume it is original to the saw) did not have any kind of funnel or baffle in it....

You are probably correct.
I’m certainly no expert, mayhaps the later ones did, or the ones that I’ve seen could have been replaced at some time in their past

I’m thinking they did it around 1997 when they added those front holes. The 1996 muffler I had had no baffle.

There’s another version of the 394 muffler that I haven’t seen a lot of. I believe it came on the first year or so 394’s. It had a screw on deflector kinda like some 262 mufflers had. No baffle inside as well either.

This my plan. 288 2nd, but that tube on the 1st will be a booger. Was gonna go in cylinder side off muffler and cut off as much as I can reach. Make up the rest with 2nd port.

Sounds like a good plan. I think removing a little obstruction and adding the second port will get it breathing good.
