Really hate to post a thread on this but i have to ask..

Is anyone else having trouble throwing chains on your 28" Tsumara Light Weights?

I swear by these bars & have been running them for 10yrs +.... I even still have my original in rotation on a commercial crew (if you can believe that)!

However, this last bar I bought will not stop throwing the chain. The saw is a 500i, pretty much brand new, just like the bar. It isn't caked up, I'm running the right chain (33rs), but this dang chain will not just stay put on the bar.

I do get a bit aggressive with my cutting but none of my other bars are doing this.. It became so much of a nuisance that I took it off today & downsized to my 85dl Stihl Lightweight.

I guess I'm just reaching out to see if anyone else has experiencing this or if a known quality change has happened with either STIHL chain (doubtful) or these Tsumara Light bars.

Is it the light bar they've had for a while or that newer premium light?

Yeah, a new 28" and 32" "premium lite" TSUMARA bar have been difficult on a pair of 90cc(+) saws . Not sure of the issue as both have correct chain drive link size and DL count. Seems really tight regarding chain drive link size vs bar groove intially. Running the snot out of both. Seems better after a few tanks. Still running them in, add extra oil on the adjustment screw. IDK yet

If a chain breaks I will post it.

Until then, more oil and more throttle.

TSUMARA just makes some really nice bars in my experience.

Until I see otherwise I'm gonna' run it. And run it hard. If a fail we will soon see it on the forums

Never heard of a problem with them, I know a few guys running them. I've never ran them personally. I keep my chains pretty tight, tighter than most guys, especially @Sawdust Man 😆.
Is your chain loosening up.
Did you have the pin pressed so you can crank the oiler open all the way.
Any pics of the old bars beside the new version.

used and/or new chains, might try soaking them for a bit in a heavy weight/ bar oil so that the the internals of the chain are lubricated. the new generation saws are pretty skimpy on oil even cranking wide open. If the chains get to dry they tend to bind internally could be the difficulty. I have run into this once in a while. It also helps on a used chain to run it through a cleaner of some type to get all the crud out of the links then re -oil before use.

It's the original checkered looking bar. I bought 20" Premium just to try out on another saw, it's super light, super flexy.

Your having issues or they seem like a nice bar?

No, I haven't done the roll pin trick yet. Ironically, ever since putting the 28" on it, it does "sound dry". Idk why, but I never put two & two together regarding it constantly getting thrown & a lack of oil. I'll have to do the pin trick & see if it quiets down & stops throwing.

I run typically run tighter than most as i hate having the chain flex sideways when making cuts at angles other than vertical. I thought that might be my problem so i back off a tad, but the problem stayed.

Honestly, at first, I just chalked the problem up as part of the normal characteristics of a longer bar, as I've historically just made a 25" bar work with whatever's in front of me. But there's no way this is normal.

They don't look much different other than color & cut out pattern.

I've never gotten that deep into the weeds with chains. I use these things 8 hours a day, everyday.. i can't imagine having to take a chain off after every use.

Yes, today's saw feel extremely anemic with oil. So much so, that I went ahead & put an HO Oiler on my ms400 & just run it wide open regardless of bar size.

I have on a 28” Total Super bar Dolmar 7910 and completely destroyed about 10 chain drivers.

@Ezarb
I think Tsumara bars are excellent. I had one that seemed to have a bit of clear-coat, or wharever protective coating they apply, in the bar groove causing the drivers to drag. Just a guess on my part. And yes, it was one of new Premium Lite bars

Is it using a tank to a tank of fuel, any oil spraying off the tip of the bar? If not you have an oiling problem.
Are the chains stretching and needing adjusted more often than normal? Same, if they are then you're not oiling enough or cheap/bad chains.

The only time I have that problem is; the wrong chain for the bar groove/excessively worn bar groove, or a dull chain when trying to clean out a notch. Fixes in order are;proper sized chain/tighten the rails, sharpen chain and a square ground chain does much better cleaning out a notch.
Honestly, at first, I just chalked the problem up as part of the normal characteristics of a longer bar, as I've historically just made a 25" bar work with whatever's in front of me. But there's no way this is normal
28 is a bit longer and more care needs to be taken with keeping it tight or the bar vertical and on the throttle when it does get looser. Little twigs and certain stringy woods will also toss chains. On a 28 if the drivers are able to be pulled much below the bar Grove by hand, it's not as tight as I like to keep them.
They don't look much different other than color & cut out pattern.
I was curious if the profile of the tip and tail were the same.

Another thing that causes a lot of issues is using well worn chains on new bars.

I think Mitch zenobi was having trouble with new light bars flexing and slinging chains but might have been sugi.

I would inspect and measure very carefully the rails. I have an old 24” bar that slings chains bad and all I can find is loose rails.

I had to return a brand new Husqvarna x-tough light bar (made by Sugihara) because the replaceable nose sprocket wasn't straight and had a noticeable kick to one side. It's worth giving the bar a really good inspection to see if a bar defect is causing the problem.

I love Tsumara and Sugihara bars. Standard, light or premium light no matter. OEM or rebranded. IME the best value today by far is Tsumara or Sugihara bars. Stihl or Cannon may be better quality, longer lasting, IDK and am not going argue this point.

But Tsumara and Sugihara bars, in any variation, type or weight are of excellent quality in my experience. 12 to 15 bars in use today.

The best value(quality vs performance in bars) available today
